10:20 AM ET 08.22 | Johnny Damon said he wants to play for the Tigers next season, even if he is traded to a contender before the season ends. He has read reports he has been placed on waivers by the Tigers along with third baseman Brandon Inge. Damon views that as the business of baseball. But that does not sour him on the Tigers.

Of course he wants to play with the TIgers ... or the Yankees ... or any other team willing to pay him millions of dollars. That includes teams in Japan.

I bet a lot of teams will be bidding the big bucks for a guy who is hitting .271 with 7 home runs, 8 stolen bases, no throwing arm, and who turns 37 in November.

If he has been placed on waivers it will be interesting to see if any team feels he is worth claiming.

Weeeell... if you put it THAT way, you make anyone willing to pay the big bucks sound like an idiots.
Which means it'll be The Mariners.

Given the Yankees sporadic lack of offense, more DL for ARod, Lance Berkmann on the DL, they should sign Damon for the stretch run.

i don't think the damon criticism is fair. yankees clearly wanted him more than red sox did a few yrs ago. blame him for going where he was most wanted? and last season off season the yanks really insulted the dude. blame him for going elsewhere?

Exactly. He did not have any offer for more than a year in FA.

That wouldn't make any sense. They have two infielders on the DL and you're suggesting they should acquire an OF?

And he and Boras will happily sign, as long as they are the highest, (probably only), bidder.

The Yankees offered more, it's really that simple.

He really should stop cutting his own hair and have a professional do it.

I hope someone does sign him next year and wish him well wherever he might go. To me he has always come across as good teammate, good attitude, happy to be wherever and willing to do what he could for that team.

Agreed, but this just sounds to me like little more than a press release from Boras, Inc. trying to position him for another contract. "Johnny Damon wants to play for <insert prospective team who may be convinced to pay him>"

I like Johnny Damon! He is a good contact hitter that rarely strikes out! I hope he stays with the Tigers. It's easy for us to look at pro athletes and criticize their every move, but they are the ones making millions while you sit in your lazy boy recliner rubbing your belly and scratching your head. As long as some team is willing to pay the pro's to play, even if they are getting older, I say more power to them! Next bashing: Brett Favre!
