The NFL's best defender on the block?
Posted: Tuesday September 18, 2007 07:30AM ET
The NFL trade deadline is Oct. 16 and that fact is important now only because the Dolphins should use the next four weeks to do the difficult thing and trade Jason Taylor. The Dolphins obviously can't give away Taylor as if he was a discarded suit in an outlet store. So anything less than a first-round pick wouldn't make it worthwhile for Miami. It's a steep price but perhaps the Broncos, Colts, Seahawks, Cowboys, or even the Patriots, could be enticed into giving up such a pick for the 2006 NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

Jets? No sacks in 2 weeks is really hurting the team...

Report Offensive Commentname the last time an aging vet was traded in the nfl for a 1st round pick?
pw | 09/18/07, 07:34 AM
Report Offensive CommentThe real dummy is not the team that gives up a first rounder for a 32 year old, 11 year vet, but Armando Salguero, the Miami Herald writer. He must have learned the trade from Dan LeBatard. Seriously, why not write "So anything less than a TWO first-round picks and a starting QB wouldn't make it worthwhile for Miami." Just because you write it doesn't mean it will happen.

Report Offensive CommentCome on down to Dallas. We got two first round picks this draft, we could make it happen.

Report Offensive CommentJason Taylor has 3 great years left. We could trade Bobby Carpenter or Greg Ellis and Dallas First Round pick for Jason Taylor.
I have no problem with that! Spencer will be good in 3 years.....That is when Taylor will retire. Come down to Dallas!

Report Offensive CommentThe irony is...
This move should have been made BEFORE the 2007 draft, then maybe a team would have given the Dolphins a 2nd and third pick for him... Remember at the time the Dolphins had a QB that did not fit in their coaches plan, instead of trying to trade him for a 5th or 6th round pick they kept him onboard to finaly cut him and he now plays for the Raiders.
But hey lets be merry, Trent Green's leadership is about to kick in!

Report Offensive CommentI agree with America's Legend...Taylor would be a great pick up i think it should happen
Nuyorican | 09/18/07, 08:29 AM
Report Offensive CommentI would not have given a first round pick for Deacon Jones when he was 32 years old. High picks for older players rarely works out.
texex001 | 09/18/07, 08:34 AM
Report Offensive CommentYou have to understand that almost no first rounders actually do anything for the first two seasons. Jason Taylor would take our D to the Next level NOW.
Also, Taylor would like to play for a team with a chance to win the big one NOW. If we got Taylor....We could beat the Pats!
America's Legend | 09/18/07, 08:44 AM
Report Offensive CommentWith Taylor at DE, and Ware rushing from the outside, no O-line could possibly block that. We would be in the QB's face all day...
jj730 | 09/18/07, 08:46 AM
Report Offensive CommentThey should trade Taylor, Thomas, Chambers, and anybody else they can get some draft picks for. I hope they go 0-16 and lock up Mcfadden or Woodson
DC Nolesfan | 09/18/07, 08:46 AM
Report Offensive CommentI hope so. He would look good opposite Seymour!

Report Offensive CommentLegend,
Do you really think the Cowboys or any team in the NFC is going to win a Super Bowl this year? Greg Ellis is damaged goods. IF Taylor's going to leave the Fins, you better believe he will go to a contender in the AFC.
SoFlaBoy | 09/18/07, 08:52 AM
Report Offensive CommentBeing a fin fan, i'd have to agree....its time to rebuild...AGAIN. The D's not gettting it done and as long as Taylor doesn't go to an AFC East team, I would be all for it. As long as it was a for at least a 1st rd. He still has a strong 3 years left. Its time to trade Zach and Chambers as well. And I hate to say that, since I would love for JT and Zack to retire a Dolphin, but they both deserve a ring.
Xconcepts | 09/18/07, 08:56 AM
Report Offensive CommentMiami are idiots! Why let someone go that's been anchoring your D for years?? This is why they are LOSERS!
What Da Bloodclott!! | 09/18/07, 09:00 AM
Report Offensive CommentDC NolesFan,
The Fins are heading in the wrong direction. Zach doesn't have much trade value now. All the tackles Jimmy Johnson made him make (because of he scheme) has taken it's toll. Chambers is a number 2 reciever at best, and I think the price for JT is to high if what I'm reading is true.
While the Fins perfect season MAY stand, it could be years before they are contenders.

Report Offensive CommentSoFlaBoy,
Why would the Dolphins trade him to an AFC team??? They wouldn't want to play him alot........That makes no sense.
I still pick the Patriots to win the Superbowl. I think that the Cowboys do have a chance to beat them. A Very Slim chance, but a chance. We play them at home in a couple of weeks. We will see then. If Marion Barber runs the ball alot...I dont see that many teams that can beat us. Wait till T-Newman comes back. He is the Most Underrated CB in the NFL.
You better believe that the Dolphins would take a First rounder from Dallas........not the Browns pick but ours.........
America's Legend | 09/18/07, 09:23 AM
Report Offensive CommentIn this case, I don't think a first round pick is out of the question. It's pretty obvious Taylors got a few good years left in him, and I think most GM's would associate 3 good defensive years from a DPOY caliber player is worth a (lower) first round pick.
I'd say there will be a lot of teams offering 2nd and 3rds, and probably a few that will actually fork over a first.
Oh, and I think I started drooling a little when I thought about Taylor shoring up the Niners front. Is that normal?
Fungushnitzel | 09/18/07, 09:23 AM
Report Offensive Commentto be honest, more drafft picks in the hands of the Fins front office is pointless, they will jut screw it up like they have the past couple drafts.
Rusty Shackleford | 09/18/07, 09:23 AM
Report Offensive CommentI don't think the cowboys should trade a first round draft pick for this guy. If you watched the game Sunday Taylor looked terrible out there. He is a great player but he's on his downside we need our draft picks next year. If they can get him for a second or third round draft pick then i think we should go after him.
