08:26 AM ET 08.23 | Team USA may have Jim Boeheim to thank. In the final seconds of a tense 86-85 exhibition victory over Spain on Sunday night, a slice of orange bailed out the United States. The Americans used a tactical shift on the final possession to secure a hard-fought victory over the defending world champion. Leading by a point with 16.9 seconds left, the United States showed its typical man-to-man before moving to a 2-3 zone, a defense Boeheim has practically trademarked during his career at Syracuse. Spain froze momentarily, and Kevin Durant blocked two low-quality shots by Spain, a long jumper by Ricky Rubio and a desperation three-pointer at the buzzer by Rudy Fernandez, to seal the victory. "He said he doesn't have any buildings named after him at Syracuse, so we named the zone after him," said Mike Krzyzewski.

Coach K, Rose, Durant all spoke highly of him. That said, was still a stupid pick over curry who would fit the triangle better.

Got to remember, Kahn did that draft in 09, with NO coach.....Rambis and the triangle, did not get hire till August 2009 ... part of the problem in Minnesota

I saw the game and the US team will get beat, they are small down low with Lamar odom starting at Center.

He did, I think they are talking about after he hit the free throws and the US where in a 2-3 zone and how the defense won the game.

1. The Boeheim zone is the most effective zone ever created.

2. The Carrier Dome will have Boeheim's name on it when he FINALLY decides to stop over playing his starters and retires.

Go ORANGE!

Rubio is a baller. Yes, he likes to show off quite a bit, but once he matures more, he could be a decent-to-good NBA-er. <Back to the topic> Boeheim's decision to play the 2-3 was awesome. And it wasn't such a difficult decision for him b/c he uses it at Cuse al the time. Way to go USA.

Talk about how far global basketball has come. Remember the time when it would be a joke to think anyone could stay on the court with NBA players?

rubio needs to play some NBA games seriously

Go USA!

As far as Rubio goes, in the right system he could be great. Unfortunately he was drafted by the wolves, so he will probably never be great.

I saw a few minutes of the first half.......rubio actually looked pretty goodHe seemed to be able to go where he wanted and had some nice passes

Shocking!! I'm waiting for the crystal ball wielders to respond to this one... Bust, etc?? Anyone?? I read what D Rose, Coach K and Durant said about him by the way... But obviously that doesn't matter to all the psychics on this forum...

QUOTE(#14):

Rubio had too much show boating on him and he was overshadowed by the starting PG in Juan Carlos Navarro who has a better all around and consistent game. That's why Rubio does start for the Spanish team. He is too overrated and maybe the Knicks should get him because they really want him badly...

Lets also keep in mind that in as much as a no-look pass is flashy, it also throws off the defenders - i.e. it might actually prove necessary. How come when Magic did it all the time it wasn't called "show boating" - it was referred to as running the PG well?
