Boudreau pans 2-on-2 as 'ridiculous'

08:58 AM ET 08.23 | The R&D camp had Bruce Boudreau thinking about the viability of some ideas, but at least one he immediately discounted. "I like the [four-on-four], the [three-on-three] was interesting and should be able to end anything and no game should ever go to a shootout with that," Boudreau said. "But [two-on-two] is just ridiculous, to me that's less hockey than a shootout. I didn't like the idea that the same shooters could shoot again either, it's more exciting that you have to use different guys and say having a Matt Bradley scoring in the 13th round rather than the same three guys over and over."

I concur.

Ironic comment from a guy who played less games in the NHL than Matt Bradley.

Doesn't mean it's a bad statement.

He's %100 correct. Two on two is rediculous. Imagine if the Caps and Predaotors were playing. It'd be Ovechkin and Backstrom against Hornqvist and Lombradi. Geee, wonder who'd win that. I like it going to 4 on4 3 on 3 then shootout.

August 23, 2010  11:13 AM ET

I think 2 on 2 is absurd, but I still wouldnt mind seeing it. Excluding the few teams that dont have atleast 1 or 2 really exciting players to watch I actually think it would be kind of exciting. (ovy, backstrom vs sid an malkin) full ice hahaha that would be awesome

Wait for the next great R&D idea - the goalies will take turns shooting at each other.

If this guy doesn't at least get his Team to the finals this year his opinion will matter only to whatever AHL team is reviewing his resume

August 23, 2010  12:12 PM ET

But the Caps with Green and Ovechkin could have a huge advantage.

And of course you can see him in the first few frames of Slap Shot, about equivalent to the duration of his NHL career...........Now I love him as our coach, don't get me wrong........

Love the Avatar Phantom....not sure who or what it is but it's colorfull. The goalie thing is pretty good and teams playing the Flames would love it as Sutter would probably pull the goaltender.

Good one. It's rough for the Flames and Leafs here in NHL T&R land.

The avatar is Tom Servo from MST3K.

even as a caps fan with any combo of green semin backstrom and ovie would be really nice in 2 on 2 this should never happen. and i doubt it ever would.

I think they would be better off arm wrestling or rock paper sciccors after regulation.

Ouch !!!! for the record Duhryl loves 3 on 3.Thats the number of players the Brothers have on each Team when they play shinny down on the ole homestead. No one ever wins though because all 6 only care about defense so they just stand on resepective sides of the frozen pond being defensibly responsible.

Ditto that as well...somehow I would like to see them get rid of the loser point. The 3 pt. win has some merit I'm just not sure how well it would be accepted

Ditto that ditto. There's an old expression, "I'm fit to be tied".

Hell, at 3 on 3 there should be no reason to ever go to a shootout. You can roll 7 lines in OT.

Yeah I can see all the Sutterites heading down to the pond in July and Duhryl happily yelling out it looks like we don't have to shovel the ice today boys!!!!

LOL! You might say, they have their own Sutterite colony! And ... they don't even need to sell naked chickens and eggs 'cause they all work for the Flames!
