08:25 AM ET 08.24 | Evan Longoria, earlier this season considered to be the next face of baseball, is back. It could have been the move to cleanup in the batting order. Perhaps some slight adjustments to his swing and stance. Possibly a change in approach, being more disciplined and selective. Or, maybe it was just time. ... In a 50-game stretch from June 12-Aug. 8, Longoria hit .234 with four homers, 23 RBIs and 16 extra-base hits. In the 13 games since, from his Aug. 9 move to cleanup through Monday, Longoria hit .345 with three homers, 14 RBIs and 13 extra-base hits.

Did anyone think his slump was going to actually last? I certainly didn't. Perfect time to start raking, too.

Longoria can carry these guys the rest of the way, and it doesn't hurt that BJ Upton is on one of his crazy hitting streaks right now.

If the Rays add Manny, as expected, just give them the damn trophy now (not to mention Hellickson and Jennings joining too).

The Yankees need to go on a tear and create some distance. These guys are not going away and have a soft September.

They Rays aren't going to add Manny. While he fills a need, he's expensive and would be a headache. Also, word on the street is Jennings isn't ready.

Besides the fact I'm a yankee fan, common sense says that no team can be crowned at this moment in the season.

P.S. Hellickson hasn't thrown an important pitch in his life.

No disrespect to the guy, but do it in October and I'll be impressed.
