Cubs job merely leverage for Girardi?

Well this is just a stupid story. If Girardi were to leave the Yanks for the Cubbies I would be concerned about his mental health.

The Cubbies and the Ricketts family outbidding the Yankees with the Steinbrenners? Joe Garadi moving from a perennial contender to a perennial pretender where he would have no chance of winning any World Series rings? No way those things will happen. Cubbie fans are just deluding themselves as usual.

He's already won a World Series with the Yankees as the manager. Why not go back home and try to do it with the Cubs? He's accomplished anything/everything he could with the Yanks. I think he's crazy to stick around and put up with those owners, when he could go to Chicago and try to get them over the hump.

I REALLY just want him to go to Chicago so the Cubs don't get Valentine. He needs to be the Mets' skipper next year!!

yeah, coaching the home town team you grew up watching would be a terrible idea. everybody should be so selfish as to want to stay and be a manager where any pea brain could manage the 200 plus million dollar team to success. the yankees could win on talent alone, they don't even need a manager. shame on the people who might actually enjoy a challenge, and a home town one at that. shame shame

not really, not when it comes to the yanks 200 million plus talent. for perspective, how many managers have the yanks hired that won a world series with their previous team? yet somehow, when they come to N.Y. they alway seem to be able win.

How would anyone know how challenging a job winning with the Cubs would be? There's no **** precedent!

No story here...Girardi is where he wants to be, and needs to be and the Cubs are going to hire Sandberg to run the club and rightfully so.

He doesn't need leverage, the Yankees want him and he wants to stay.

Haha harsh. It is hard to imagine Girardi leaving NY, however, regardless of who another team is that may offer him a contract.

Unless you make it to the WS I'd say. Winning it would be nice, but if a manager took the team to one, they would have an odd hero status.

I can't imagine a worse job then managing the Yankees. Sure, the money is good, NY is a great town to live in if you have money, and the Yankees are a storied and successful franchise. But, it can not be much fun. Why? First off, there's the spoiled, silver-spooned Steinbrenner kids and their lackie GM who will never have Girardi's back. Second, no matter how much you win, you will get no credit because you are expected to win. There is no team-building aspect as all elements are bought and shipped in for assembly. Then there is the "hate" factor. When Girardi won at the Marlins, he got and deserved most of the credit. The same would be true with the Cubs. I can't imaging a better job then managing the Cubs....which is the opposite of the Yankees. Nobody expects them to win! But, someday the Cubbies will win and the manager who does that will be beloved and become an iconic figure. Girardi just might be that guy.....I hope so.

I think a lot of fans don't understand the fact that managing the Cubs can be a managers dream job.

You take a three or four year contract for good pay(remember; money has never been their problem. They can pay you) and if you get lucky you become the manager who broke the Cubs' 100+ year curse and are forever immortalized in baseball lore.

If you don't get lucky, everyone's reaction is pretty much, "Well, what are you gonna do? It's the Cubs. Better luck with the next team!"

I'm not saying Girardi is going anywhere, as I doubt he would, but I don't get why people seem to think he'd be dumb for taking it.
