08:35 AM ET 08.24 | A rivalry that began more than 100 years ago is about to take a bath. Beating Michigan or beating Ohio State is what the teams work toward. It represents seeing the season through, either for their own glory or to ruin their rivals. ... Ohio State and Michigan should be placed in the same division and meet in the final game of the regular season. It works for Auburn- Alabama, Texas-Texas A&M and a host of other great rivalries that have survived the super conference era. It's a nod to the concept that these are more than just games, that they aren't just a product to package for television, that in college football, tradition should be honored, not reworked in the hope of a ratings bump.

I agree, no matter which conference teams move to, some rivalries should be left as is.

Wow harly marl you de man.

Just as long as The Game occurs every year, I don't care whether it's within the same division or cross-division. And no matter WHEN in the season The Game occurs, a loss in that game IS ruination to the rival...

This would be like the fat boys breaking up or rex ryan endorsing whole grains.

For some reason, this pic of Pryor reminded me of JaMarcus Russell in the Oakland Raiders. Maybe good Ol'Al is salivating on drafting him, paying him $36 million, and firing him 3 unproductive years down the line.

I wonder if this isn't being kicked around because Michigan is trying to think of a way to back out of the Ohio State game until they get their legs back under them and can compete with the Buckeyes again?

August 24, 2010  10:39 AM ET

No way. No matter the circumstances, both teams and their fans look forward to The Game. As buck-i-girl mentioned, same division or cross division doesn't matter, just as long as both teams have a date to circle on the calendar.

sentiments of a true fan of the youngstown state-marshall classic. smh. playing Mich in October is not going to be "great". Its blasphemy. There is a reason for "rivalry weekend" in college football. its historic. next you gonna be championing a Superbowl in Liverpool. smh...

Michigan would be backing out of a heck of a lot of games for the near term if they are waiting to get their legs back under them. The RichRod experiment is not going well.

its no longer about sports, its all about the money.

The fear from Delany is that Michigan and Ohio State could play each other twice in two weeks (The Game and then Big10(12) Championship). If you want to dispel this fear just put them in the same damn division, the game will remain THE GAME, and you lose the repeat (revenge) championship game. Really I think Delany is concerned the Big 10 Championship is not going to work-out, so he wants to make sure that a marquee match-up like Ohio State and Michigan is possible. But Nebraska v. Penn State, Michigan v. Wisconsin, that's not bad either...Indiana v. Michigan State, now you are pushing it. Make sure the rivals are in the same division and things will be okay in the Big 10 (12). There is a reason why the Cowboys still play in the NFC East.

There is just something to that Saturday in November. I would like to keep it there. I actually comp out at work for that game just to enjoy the whole day.

Or test the waters for probable backlash. If it's a done deal, Delaney better be prepared for a firestorm of criticism. He may also want to think about making an early claim at the unemployment office.

This is how I read it. Lets see what kind of $#it storm the rumors create and go from there.
