08:36 AM ET 08.24 | The Blackhawks may have found a way around Cristobal Huet's cap hit. [Huet's $5.625-million] contract is eligible to be placed on waivers and "loaned" to another team. On Monday, reports surfaced that Huet has a deal in place to play for Swiss club HC Fribourg-Gotteron, three hours away from his hometown of Grenoble, France. While the arrangement has yet to be finalized, if he joins that team next month, Huet's contract will no longer count against the cap and Chicago will be under by more than $1.5-million with 21 players under contract. NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said Huet playing in Europe would be "no different than an assignment to the AHL" and is perfectly legal under the collective bargaining agreement.

Brian Burke Ugly Avatar Day Contest

On Thursday August 26th everyone who's interested in participating can change their avatar to a picture of Brian Burke. Please post your intention to enter. Worst picture (I know redundant) wins. Argos will be the judge with final say on said decision. Perhaps an added caption to your photo could be used by Argos as a tie breaker. We can't have a shoot out as the Alberta & Texas members are better armed than most of us.

Any likeness that portrays Burke's management style, sterling personality, or any of his other fine characteristics will be allowed.

The only real rule is no naked pictures of Brian. I know only Leaf fans would have such a thing and most (except for Argos) don't have enough of a sense of humour to join in but just in case. I'm not sure we'd all recover in time to enjoy the upcoming season.

Have fun.

Look for Burke to give the Finger to Jeff Finger and send his arse down and his $3.5M dollar cap hit to the AHL

Possibly this is the solution for Wade Redden and the Rangers.

interesting that this many years past the lockout these interesting loop holes are surfacing. The possibilities with this particular one are endless.

I don't think he does it, unless he needs the cap space.

He doesn't wanna get him mad, or other veterans. All be it, if he needs the cap space, he would be with the Marlies in a heartbeat.

Huet is living a sweet life. He is gonna get $5.6 million next year, on top of his salary in Europe. And he gets to go on a nice European vacation.

Thay are not just surfacing HC there are no teams willing to take these contracts as most teams are against their budget or cap for over a year on this site I have been saying to send Redden to the minors but like everything NHL they are looking for someone else to start the trend as soon as someone eats a contract whether it be Europe or the AHL the dominoes will fall into place and you will see as many as a half dozen moves .Maybe next summer they will discover the buyout clause in the CBA

imagine the possibility of a rich owner or ownership group buying an "off Continent" pro Team and regularly shipping guys out from their NHL club for short stints to save on the cap.Huge loophole.

The loophole went straight on like a tunnel for some way and then dipped suddenly down, so suddenly that Cristobal had not a moment to think about stopping before he found himself falling down a very deep well.

Ya gotta watch where you are walking, those loopholes aren't easy to see and then "Whoops!". More slippery than ice they are.

What excatly do you mean he doesnt want to get him mad? Obviously you know more than I do, so im curious what is the word around town about his relationships with they players? good or bad? and also from the outside looking in I get the sense that Burke isnt the kind of guy who would refrain from doing something because he doesnt want make someone mad (especially Jeff Finger). I cant see his relationship with Kaberle beeing too great lately, and I would imagine he is one of the more respected veterans in the Leafs locker room, do you think that would influence other players (both veterans and younger players) to think poorly of there GM? He's already made Kaberle mad, why would he care about finger?

.....FYI im actually just curious and looking for your thoughts on this one and in no way am trying to bash the leafs or burke

Do you think it would be the same farm my grandpa sent my dog Mr. Whisters to back when I was a kid. I heard he really liked it there.
