08:04 AM ET 08.25 | At long last? It's been a weird couple of days trying to make sense of the Darrelle Revis contract negotiations with the Jets, but one source close to the situation told FanHouse on Tuesday that the star cornerback's long-awaited contract extension with the team is "almost there" and could be finalized and announced in the coming days. ... Currently scheduled to make $1 million in 2010, and with three years remaining on his rookie contract, Revis has not attended a practice since the Jets started training camp more than three weeks ago.

There have been reports, but I don't know if they're accurate.Lord I hope this gets resolved soon....even though revis' base salary is small, he would've made more with bonuses and its VERY hard to feel sympathy with a player that has 3 years left on a contract that HE held out to get as a rookie

i'm wit cha' , but in the grand scheme of things NFL players deserve guaranteed contracts...

Mercifully? That's an interesting way of putting it.

Good. That's just one more stupid saga I won't have to hear about anymore.

Really? That's something I didn't know... I hope this prima donna is going to stick to this contract for a while... if it does get done... good luck, Jets...

Agreed, one less whiner in the NFL.

August 25, 2010  08:28 AM ET

It's an ego thing, he wants to be the highest paid player at his position. It sounds like his "small base salary" is the only thing he getting paid, c'mon people, a highly publicized player in NYC, you think he shot that commercial for free? Dudes getting paid, he needs to get his ass on the field with his team and prove he's the best corner in the leauge, and not just go off last seasons performance. At least he's not pulling a Spree, yet...

I agree with you there...I understand that these contracts are not guaranteed...but to have aalready held out and now do it again....crazy

The Jets were probably thinking how do we keep him happy without him bleeding us dry?

That's the sad thing about athletes, they want something and the owners (sometimes) cave. If ANY of us pulled the same stunts that these athletes pull, we'd be out of work.

This sets a great precedence for the rest of the young guys on the team. Look for more holdouts on the Jets in coming years.

Good point.

Watch for Revis to get torched by the Pats and Brady on September 19th

No doubt!Him and Haynesworth.... Except Haynesworth actually got paid, and doesn't want to do right.

Warren Sapp called out both Revis and Haynesworth for their recent behavior, that guy pulls no punches.

Exactly!

August 25, 2010  08:59 AM ET

i dont get it. some player has a break-out year and automatically wants a new contract to make him one of the best paid players at his position. what if he gets the contract he wants and then just plays really poorly the rest of the way. in that case he should sign a new contract where he gets paid much, much less. fair, or??
