Which QB starts for Michigan?
Michigan senior Chad Henne is nursing a sprained left knee. He sat out the Notre Dame game while freshman Ryan Mallet filled in competently. Still, a decision has yet to be made concerning Saturday's game against Penn State, and Michigan coach Lloyd Carr appears to be evasive on the subject. On Monday, Carr told reporters that Henne was "day-to-day," but he added that he "has got enough experience that he could play without practice."

OSU fans don't have to worry about who our QB is. As long as Carr is the Michigan coach your odds of winning are increased substantially. But right now the situation for you is moot because we aren't playing you this weekend.

Why take a chance after already loosing 2 games with Henne coming back too early and REALLY hurting his knee. By that I mean hurting it bad enough that he can't play the rest of the year,, If they were undefeated it would be different.. But why take the chance????

X??Tony Fan...not only hurting it to the point of not returning the rest of the year but hurting his chances, what they may be, of getting drafted. I know he wants another shot at OSU but there is life beyond that game as well.

Michigan needs Henne to start. He is a four year starter and he knows the offense better than Mallet.

Henne might still be hurt but he has got to go out there and play for this team.
Mallet only knows a handful of plays and a handful of plays is not going to help him out against Dan Connor, Justin King, and the rest of the Penn State defense. If Mallet's the starter they are just going to load up in the box to stop Mike Hart, and force Mallet to beat them.
Plus the way Mallet throws the ball, Manningham can't hold on to them.

Bring on either one. By halftime the PSU defense will make whoever is the starter wish that the other guy was chosen.

I would be happy to play All-time QB for both teams. As we all know, I will produce 4 National Championships!

My concern is if he is banged up, can he escape and scramble? Joe Pa and his boys are going to be coming hard...at least Mallet can get out of the way. If Henne can't, he's going to eventually leave the game with more than just his knee hurting him.

I mean look at how many QB's left the game from Penn State last year...2, one I know of with a concussion, not sure of the other...so it can happen. The 3rd QB that came in looked like he was about to wet himself.

Mallet without question. He's identified by the rest of the players as a winner - a big winner - and you continue the roll. That is, until he falters. Then you can bring in Henne. In the meantime, you let Henne heal better.

I don't know how other U of M fans feel but I'm kind of impressed with Mallet and looking forward to the next couple of years. He's big, mobile and has a strong arm. I he learna how to harness that strength and get a softer touch when it is needed and this kid is going to be good.

Since I certainly can't expect the coaching staff to game plan in an intelligent manner with Henne under center, I'm hoping they keep Henne healing on the sideline until he is 100% so that running the ball becomes the obvious choice these next two weeks.
Exactly how many bad INTs does a QB have to throw before he earns the quote,
"has got enough experience that he could play without practice."
Really? A Heisman candidate who throws back across the field against his running angle in his Senior season... yeah, he's obviously all practiced out.

cuerazo how in Joe Pa's name can you be so confident in your "amazing" defense which surrendered 24 points.... to BUFFALO. And yeah, that Florida International game... wow a real big test there.
The common opponent was Notre Dame. Man, even my Michigan D looked all world against Notre Dame and the whole world saw how we played in the first two weeks.
I don't think either program should be talking any smack at this point. We've obviously popped a squat so far this season, sure. But you've lost 8 straight to us and haven't shown the world anything to be too excited about.

The TRUTH senses some uneasiness in Wolverinenation....didn't that win against ND cure alll of your worries?

I think he will be fine in the long run Tribe, but he isn't the answer right now. Maybe Carr can play Mallet and Henne at the same time, similar to what he did with Drew Henson and Tom Brady. He can get Henson the experience, while easing Brady out the door. He also had a two QB system with Griese and Scott Driesbach (yes, I know he had it out of injury concerns and the two flip-flopped often for the job).
But this Saturday it has to be Henne. He needs to man up and play.
And yes Truth I am uneasy, because while beating ND was sweet and getting to rub it in the faces of some people here was even sweeter, one win is definitely not a cure-all.

Man, I meant to say get Mallet the experience while easing Henne out of the door.
