Rivers: Starting five undefeated vs. Lakers

08:24 AM ET 08.25 | Doc Rivers is calling for a T, as in a technicality. The Lakers are back-to-back champions simply because Boston center Kendrick Perkins tore the medial collateral and posterior cruciate ligaments in his right knee, causing him to miss the final three quarters of Game 6 and all of Game 7. Or so Rivers would like you to think. "They still have not beaten our starting five," Rivers recently told ESPN 980's John Thompson, as provided by Sports Radio Interviews. "Our starting five against the Lakers starting five has a ring. Tell him [a Lakers fan] don't forget that. We will be back strong and Perk will be there next year if there's a Game 7."

Valid point but....that doesn't mean a dang thing right now Doc.

I think that just plays into the bigger problem the Celtics have, the chances of their starting 5 being healthy that far into the season is low... Really think Perks is the only reason you lost? I know Perks is young but the Celtics are just too old

Yupp... even though what he said is true its BS in value cos Lakers haven't had a healthy Bynum or Kobe. Mr. Bryant beat the Celts with with softy Pau as power forward. That's great achievement. Give respect where respects due.

This makes Lebron's quitting on the Cavs sickening for the Cleveland faithful given they had Antoine Jamison and could have gone far. Man I *** that cat. I feel Gilbert's pain. Robbery is an understatement.

HA! Poor Lost...lol....You're taking this LBJ thing, harder than I did, and I'M A CAVS FAN! RElax bro, it will be alright. Everything happens for a reason. All in all, LBJ may be a moron, but he's still a h*lll of a BB player. But that's just it, it's just BB. LBJ, nor Wade, nor Bosh are can end world hunger, our economic crisis, or our war. So let's put our energy into the things that really matter the most.

Man.. I got plans that are better than jail but anything that involves fighting to win just reminds me of that coward. Man Gilbert threw all this money into the team and got the whole state to be on board and then he just quit cos he wants to go play with his friends? Man that's crazy. Anyways... what's good.

Little early for Lakers vs Boston talk....especially if the one rumor on ESPN comes true... Dampier and his $13m contact will either be traded to an another then Cut, or Cut by the Bobcats for CAP relief..... and as a FA at 35 years old, he should go to Miami for a ring, better then the Heats centers now.

I understand what you're saying Lost. I don't like the way LBJ handled the situation, because he knew he was leaving way before the "Decision". However, he did what he felt was best for him, his family, and his career. So even though I don't agree, I respect his "decision". It's cool though, my CAVS will be alright. One thing my city has is great perseverance. I'm doing well Lost, no complaints. Waiting for my Brownies and Buckeyesto get it going. How are you?

He's not better than Big Z. More athletic and faster, yes. Better scorer, heck no!

I have respect for Doc, I always thought he turned into a great big PG at the end of his career, but this is madness. I don't remember him making this much of a big deal out of his being injured the one year we should have won the championship but lost him and Starks to knee injuries and had to essentially replace our backcourt with the old Mavs tandem of Ro Blackman and Derek Harper.

QUOTE(#17):

I hate to disagree with a Buckeye, but in this case I must. As a law professor of mine used to say "if if's and and's were pots and pans, the whole world would be a kitchen." Injuries are part of the game. Kobe was hurt too. If we're going to IF everything to death, you have to wonder how badly the Celtics would've gotten beaten IF Kobe had been 100%.I believe had Perkins been healthy the outcome would have been the same. Perkins? Does anyone really think he's the type of player to be the difference maker? The guy is good, but he's not that good. Doc would be better of if he stopped refighting this battle in his mind and focus on beating the Heat and Magic.

Basically Doc! Good point. Rivers better focus on getting out of the EC first, then worry about the WC.
