Kings rolling dice with Mitchell?

08:22 AM ET 08.26 | Willie Mitchell will open the season with Vancouver -- facing the Canucks, that is. "That should be interesting. My wife looked that up before I did. It will be fun, there will be a lot of energy, a lot of emotions ... I hope I get the colours right on the first night." ... Many felt Mitchell, 33, would have to sign a one-year, bonus-laden contract and prove he was over the concussion. The Kings were willing to roll the dice on a player they see as a significant addition to a back end that includes youngsters Drew Doughty and Jack Johnson. Ron Hextall, the Kings' assistant GM, said he sees Mitchell in a shutdown role alongside Doughty, the talented Norris Trophy finalist. "I do envision him being with Drew Doughty," Hextall said in an interview with the team's website.

The Kings still need someone up front, I thought their D was ok last year. Poni is no replacement for losing out on Kovy, he's not even really a replacement for losing Frolov. After all those losing seasons, the Kings might just be one top 6 forward away from really competing.

Agreed. Either that or maybe a top notch goaltender who they actually keep around during his prime instead of trading him off so he can perform out of this world well for some other team
