08:24 AM ET 08.26 | Back to the drawing board? As far as the ongoing Ilya Kovalchuk saga is concerned, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman wants to set the record straight. Bettman refuted a report on the New York Post's website stating that the league rejected the Devils' second attempt to come to terms on a contractual agreement with the star winger. "In order for a contract to be rejected, there would have to be a contract submitted," Bettman told ESPN.com Wednesday at the world hockey summit. "There has not been a signed contract submitted." But Bettman would not deny that there has been ongoing dialogue between the Devils and the NHL in an attempt to come to a compromise on a pact that would be agreeable to all parties involved, according to the website.

IT'S HERE: BRIAN BURKE UGLY AVATAR DAY

I see an ugly dwarf showed up for the fun.

August 26, 2010  09:18 AM ET

Well, as I am sure everyone is now aware, there are reports that Don Fehr is going to be the head of the NHLPA. If that is true, things might start to get real ugly.

Brian working hard at this year's draft!

August 26, 2010  09:35 AM ET

Bettman and his frick in word games makes me sick.

Apparently this is true and the NHL is in great danger. This ranks right up there with the Dwarf putting a franchise in Tijuana to get the drug cartels as season ticket holders.

Fehr is not good for the game, but neither is the commish. And since the PA has had rocky leadership for a few years now, this is probably what they need.

I respectfully disagree. You're right about the Poison Dwarf being bad for the League, but Fehr is not good for anything. In addition to pure, unadulterated greed, he probably single-handedly brought the steriod disgrace on baseball by never agreeing to drug-testing and nearly killing the game's credibility. They still haven't recovered. Whatever he does, it won't be good for anybody but him.

I agree that the PA needs strong leadership. I'm not sure Fehr is the right guy. I think things will get much worse before they get better with him at the helm. Hockey doesn't have the advantages that baseball has in terms of tv revenue and those kinda things. If nothing else, it will be entertaining.

Maybe the commish and Fehr can have a MMA cage match. At least, we would all get some entertainment out of their attempts to ruin the game ;)

Im sure Fehr is smart enough to realize the NHL doesnt have MLB dough coming in. I just want to see Bettman get knocked down a few pegs. Thats all i really want for christmas.....that and a pony....or a Coors Light girl.

I think you're on to something big! In addition to being a cash cow in Vegas and increase tourism and employment in a weak market, it would be a great PPV event on cable. Yeah, yeah, the more I think about it the more I like it.

I didn't consider the PPV possibilities. They might make enough thru that to bail out Phoenix!

If Brian had only spent more time in Russia a few years ago, his vacation could have been like this too!

That's exactly it. Right now the owners, most of them anyway, like the Commish. If you have strong leadership from the PA, maybe the owners won't like him as much, and maybe for Christmas we can all get the gift we really like - a Red Rider BB gun....I mean a new commish.

Hi everyone. BBGuns here. This is a pic of me back in the day,
before my silverback hair and my candyapple honker.

You say tomato, I say tomahtoe, let's call the whole thing off.........

August 26, 2010  12:54 PM ET

I just dont understand why they chose to use a pitcher of a Donkey's rear end.

August 26, 2010  12:58 PM ET

I see a league killing work stoppage coming if Buttman and Fehr are the ones battling out the new CBA. The PA needs good strong leadership, but i dont think Fehrs it. No good can come out of these two egos clashing.

Watched the head of the player's union, I forget the player's name, complaining about how the NHL is causing teams to break up and distribute their Stanley cup winning assests because of the salary cap. Maybe the player's should look at each and say..hey, we have a good thing going here. If I take a salary hit, from say $5 M per season to only $3M and a few more of us do that, we can keep this team intact and maybe win a few more cups, think of the promotional opportunities that might open up...instead of I want more and more and more and then I'll complain that no one can win the cup because of the salary cap. Ranting from the cheap seats, if you can find any...
