09:21 AM ET 08.28 | Don't count the Western Athletic Conference out of Brigham Young University's future athletic plans just yet. WAC commissioner Karl Benson told The Salt Lake Tribune on Friday evening that his conference is still negotiating with BYU about the possibility of the Cougars going independent in football and placing its non-football sports in the WAC. "Both sides are still working on a deal that will be beneficial to the WAC and to BYU," Benson said. Earlier Friday, a source at Utah State also confirmed that negotiations were taking place between the two sides.

I don't know. I know, am friends with, have business partners, that are LDS and they have a rabid fan base that is deep and very devoted to their schools. If they can get a good schedule and be successful they might pull it off. They have Tx on their schedule.Oh speaking of which we have scheduled a 2 game series with Maryland in 17 and 18 with the 2018 game being played in Redskins Stadium plus added Arky for 2014.

Yeah I think the only problem for BYU is getting a decent schedule. That fanbase is well spread out and will travel. They are usually loyal even during the bad years under crowton they still sold out home games.

No way is going independent gonna work well for them. They don't really have any good choices, though. Football independence may suck less than their other options.

If you would just read their extra book, this move was prophesied by Joseph Smith just after marrying his 12th wife.

ABC, who owns rights to the B12 champ game thru 2016, is telling Dan Beebe "go get BYU"

BYU is the hot button team as a potential addition to the B12. You are correct. Tx has interest which is part of why they added them to their schedule as an OOC. Who is that other independent team that was added and Tx will try to bring in the fold. I forget their name.

Yes ... yes ... and the world's #1 car salesman is twisting their arm as we speak. It's a struggle of biblical proportions: ND=Sampson, JJ=Delilah.

That's pretty good Papa. I laughed. The majority of LDS don't follow the Joseph Smith philosophy though although there are groups out there. He's more of a pariah then and idol.

What are you talking about? The LDS church believes that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God who restored the one true church. They believe that all of their authority was restored through Smith.

Not CFB related but still interesting as hell, has anyone seen the documentary, 'The Mormons' on PBS Frontline American Experience.
Is this film accurate, if so then Come On, PLEASE!! Ha ha ha,, But I dont really care what religion people choose,
Love one another is the universal answer to all of the worlds woos. IMO.

JJ is lookin' more like Delilah's great-great-great grandfather. But yeah, those two additions would be good for the conference. Since they'd both be in the north division, they would have an annual rivalry game. The "Holy War"?

Not likely to happen but being a resident of KC MO, and a huge ND fan, i like this Big-12 idea better than the Big-10.
After all, Missouri is the actual location of the garden of Eden, according to the LDS. HA HA HA!!
Sorry i couldn't resists.

The options may not be all that great, but staying in the MWC would be worst of all. An independent schedule would be hard, especially for the first couple of years, where many teams already have the schedule filled. After that, BYU would have enough lead time to get some good games scheduled. The key is still finding a landing place for all the other sports.

Yes! I agree!!

They could always just form a National Conference that consists entirely of private schools supported by religious denominations: Notre Dame, Boston COllege, BYU, Baylor, TCU, Wake Forest, Tulsa, Duke, SMU, etc. Just to spice things up, add Bob Jones and Oral Roberts. Wouldn't that be interesting watching Bob Jones take on LDS at BYU? Kidding aside, it would actually be a power conference in basketball when you add Georgetown, Villanova, Marquette, Xavier, Davidson, Gonzaga, DePaul, Seton Hall, etc. to the names above. Talk about a conference with very high academic standards...

That's odd since he founded the belief system. What about the secret underwear for Temple Mormons, do y'all still wear that?
