Bengals auditioning linebackers

Posted: Wednesday September 19, 2007 09:30AM ET

The Bengals waived linebacker Andre Frazier on Tuesday and might be on the verge of signing Dhani Jones. Jones, a former Giants and Eagles linebacker, visited the Bengals on Tuesday, the same day former Miami linebacker Terna Nande and Kevis Coley, a linebacker from Southern Mississippi, had tryouts.

What, the Bengals actually had linebackers before?

Oh, those must have been those guys that were standing around watching Lewis run up and down the field.

bengals starting lb's were:

pollock injured (broken neck and possibly done),

thurman suspended (for 2 years for a dui, so much for balance punishment goodell)

simmons cut (now a saint in cap move to free money for j smith)

Johnson the single returning starter, still there, but now alone. surrounded by cfl castoffs, nfl hasbeens and college neverwas.

hey its great to see the bengals are tryin' to improve on something defensively but hey its gonna take more than aaron smith and dhani jones to win you a championship. great offense, worse defense gives you just a regular season team.

Bengals ink LB Dhani Jones

Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - The Cincinnati Bengals signed veteran linebacker Dhani Jones to one-year contract on Wednesday. Terms of the deal were not released.

Jones, an eight-year veteran, had eight tackles and a sack during five preseason games with New Orleans. The Saints cut him on August 31.

A sixth-round choice of the New York Giants in the 2000 draft, Jones has played in 95 career games with 74 starts, recording 447 tackles (113 solo) with four sacks. He has not missed a game over the last four seasons, spending the 2003 campaign with the Giants and the next three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles.

He played all 16 games, including 13 starts last season for the NFC East champion Eagles in 2006, recording 93 tackles. Jones also had 10 more tackles in a pair of playoff games.

Jones was released by the Eagles on April 30 of this year.

The Bengals released linebacker Andre Frazier on Tuesday to clear a roster spot for Jones.

Dhani plays a mean air guitar. Can't really play football, though. He has good manners and he's well spoken, which is nice. Although this really doesn't really help his D.

Report Offensive Comment

It might be a good pickup for the Bengals. Dhani Jones at least has a decent record with tackling, something the Bengals have not been good at over the last few years. He may be able to help on special teams as well.

I will play for a few million!!

You will play for a dime and some old gum scraped off the bottom of a toilet seat.

Report Offensive Comment

Can I just take the dime and call it good then!?!? LOL

Report Offensive Comment

So...do you have to have a criminal record before you can try out with the Bengals?

Report Offensive Comment

Cincy's defense will still suck... They need better personel and better schemes. The first 3 picks in the draft next year should be on the defensive side of the ball.
