Chiefs coordinator under fire

Despite a handful of questionable play calls in Sunday's loss to Chicago, Chiefs coach Herm Edwards indicated Tuesday that he hasn't lost faith in offensive coordinator Mike Solari. The Chiefs coaching staff -- Solari, in particular -- has been criticized for bungling a fourth-quarter possession that could've pulled Kansas City within one possession of the Bears.

Don't know if this is a head coach truly sticking up for his assistants, or throwing one under the bus in a very subtle way.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like the Cheifs have been going backwards since Edwards took over.

The Chiefs are going nowhere fast.

September 19, 2007  09:45 AM ET

I would be more inclined to point the finger at whoever they've got at GM rather than Herm. Over the past few years they've lost three of their stars (Green, Roaf and Shields) to age and retirement without making serious efforts to bring solid talent back in.

They've also ignored their glaring need at WR for a very long time. Plus, giving up Dante Hall for a 4th round pick was just silly. He was one of the few impressive weapons they had left. Rebuilding is one thing, but seemed more like gutting the team just for the heck of it.

I agree fung...it doesnt make much sense

September 19, 2007  09:55 AM ET

I am so glad the Jets let him go, terrible coach!!

September 19, 2007  09:58 AM ET

name the last time herm put a decent offense on the field. its not the coordinator's fault if he doesnt have the correct parts of the puzzle to make it work.

clock is starting to tick on herm in kc. he wont survive another bad season in 2008.

Not even the ghost of Bill Walsh can help this team.

I seriously think the Waterboy could do a better job. "Mama said . . Mama said, th . . . th . . .throw the ball . . . and happiness comes from rays of sunshine when you're feeling blue."

September 19, 2007  11:01 AM ET

I thought Marty Shottenheimer was still their coach?

September 19, 2007  11:10 AM ET

It wasnt the play calling, it was DA BEARS Defense, at on point they had 5 straight 3 and outs

September 19, 2007  11:17 AM ET

hey no matter wat happened or could've happened the chiefs cant and will not ever beat the bears even if they had a fourth string quaterback in the game.

September 19, 2007  11:26 AM ET

Agree with Fungus, this team seems be going nowhere. They went out and got the coach they wanted and seem content with the lack of talent.

September 19, 2007  11:35 AM ET

Edwards might be the worst coach in the league, but he's always getting another chance because the media loves him because he's a good soundbite. He had better never boycott reporters or his career will be over. He's a bad coach, in charge of a bad team that's all part of a bad oganization

September 19, 2007  01:44 PM ET

BANG BANG!! I am gonna bust a cap in your a*s*s!! LOL

September 19, 2007  02:00 PM ET

I don't think it matters one bit who the coordinator is, so long as Herm Edwards is in charge. I have no doubt that he'd turn Peyton Manning into a "caretaker," throwing about 25 times a game for 200 yds and a TD. He has no b@lls, guts, whatever you choose to call it.

September 19, 2007  02:34 PM ET

Now you see what McNabb was talking about. Herm Edwards has done nothing but get a so-so team to it's first playoff in years, while making a horrible defense reach respectable using younger players to mesh with the veterans. He didn't draft Croyle, and didn't ask Roaf and other HOF lineman to retire. All you redneck a@@holes would rather have a crybaby like Vermeil coach and never win jack!! Yeah, score alot of points, and make sportscenter highlights when Tiki Barber weaves through the defense like swiss cheese. Face it, the team has old and aging talent at key positions (corner back, # 1receiver) and needs time to retool, REGARDLESS of who's coaching. Let's get Parcells or another white coach in there, so you'll give him the time to do what is necessary!

September 19, 2007  02:48 PM ET

What was McNabb saying about the Cheifs again!?!?! I think I missed that one!

September 19, 2007  03:02 PM ET

you can't blame one dude..the whole team is a joke....

September 19, 2007  03:03 PM ET

Nice Pic ZaZ!!! We miss Elway!!

September 19, 2007  03:23 PM ET

HERM EDWARDS ISNT THE WORST COACH IN THE LEAGUE..... HE IS THE SECOND WORST, RIGHT AFTER ANDY REID! BUT THIS ORGANIZATION IS A MESS AND I AM NOT SURE THEY CAN FIND ANYONE THAT MUCH BETTER THEN HERM ANYTIME SOON AND THERE IS NO QUICK FIX FOR THEM.

DK.....AND NO I DONT LIKE VERMEIL, OR PARCELS.

September 19, 2007  03:30 PM ET

ARIS .... YOU SHOULD MIS T.D. HE IS THE REAL REASON BEHIND TWO ELWAYS RINGS!

I FORGOT ABOUT NORV TURNER, LOOKS LIKE HE MADE NICE MESS OF SAN DIEGO TOO, I FELT LIKE I NEED TO SAY THAT, BEFORE SOME INSECURE J.A.C.K. - A.S.S. MAKES IT INTO RACE ISSUE.
