Perturbed Phillips may play Cowboys starters vs. Miami

09:29 AM ET 08.29 | The Cowboys did the unthinkable Saturday night. They pushed coach Wade Phillips beyond his limit with a sloppy and lifeless showing in a 23-7 exhibition loss to Houston at Reliant Stadium. In the locker room, genial Wade turned into perturbed Wade. He kept the room closed longer to scold his team, telling it it's not ready for the regular-season opener Sept. 12 at Washington. The mistake-ridden performance moved Phillips to consider something he has not done in his previous three seasons in this job. He could give the first-teamers some playing time in Thursday's final exhibition, at home against Miami.

OK, so he's schizophrenic. Who isn't?

That might not be a good sign.

You know, a team's record during preseason is totally indicative of their performance during the season. Do you guys remember when the Detroit Lions went undefeated during preseason and then . . . Oh, wait. Crap!

He has a right to be angry. The starters were aweful. It was not acceptable. At first I thought maybe they just did not want to show their hand since they will play the Texans for real in week 3, but they were just lousy. I still say we need to tar and feather Jerry Jones and put him on a rail back to Arkansas!

Certainly not us.

Tale of two gameplans though. Texans played like it was the SB. Cowboys played like it didn't mean anything. Would have like to of seen better execution, but anyone who thinks this is what the regular season will be like is an idiot. A lot of dinged up Cowboys, and they are getting healed. Staying in a cover 1 defense will not win many games. No blitzing, no line stunts. If you really watched the game, you could see the Cowboys were showing nothing. Normal for Garrett and Phillips.

The problem isn't that they lost. It's that after three offensive series they had -1 yard. That is reason for concern. They just did not show up to play. Or maybe they are sandbagging because they play Houston in week three.

I meant, certainly not me. No you don't. Yes I do!

Glad the coach recognizes p1ss-poor performance when he sees it. We sure did.

August 29, 2010  10:18 AM ET

Anybody could see that the Cowboys were playing tired. They need a rest, both mentally and physically. They weren't even dancing for 15 seconds after a tackle or a 3 yard gain. Its tough being America's team.

Barron sucks. He needs to got back to St. Louis and show off his lack of blocking skills. Nobody will notice there. Not even a good backup OL fill-in.

All this preseason hype about the cowboys, vikes, and saints being the 3 elite NFC teams... HA! Saints are the only team that look like they're on track...

August 29, 2010  10:23 AM ET

Freaking out over a preseason loss. Great!! The Texans always bring it against the Cowboys. Just regroup and get ready for the regular season.

August 29, 2010  10:33 AM ET

wade perturbed??? would love to have seen that. didn't know he could get perturbed. thought the prozac must be taking prevented him from any emotions. any cowboy fans concerned yet?

Pre-season or not, Cowboys looked horrible. You know it's an off-night when Roy Williams is the bright spot on the field for the team.

They did look awful. Still, not concerned.....yet. It was the Texans, they always play tough against the Cowboys. If it was any other team, I would be concerned.
