Rangers not a playoff lock?

08:23 AM ET 09.01 | While there are many distractions this time of year to a Rangers season, any perceived lock status for the playoffs may have taken a hit. There is always something about which to worry. Usually with good cause, too. Despite appearances, this year is no different. The Rangers may have control of the division on Sept. 1, but it is a long way from the first of the month to the end of the season. In the last week alone, the Rangers have lost two of three -- at home -- to their closest pursuer, dealt with a Josh Hamilton injury, and had to shut down a pair of relievers. Tuesday night, they lost to the Royals, 10-9, on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth.

I'd be more worried about Cliff Lee than any of the above.

They are inthe AL West, one of the worst divisions in baseball. They have Chico's Bail Bonds in the rearview mirror for pete's sake

and they may have just compounded their problems by acquiring Francoeur from the Mets.

Mets taint?

They are 8.5 games up on the A's. The last 10 games Oakland was 4-6. Texas does not have to worry, but they will be bounced in the first round.

Luckily for the Rangers, they are playing the Royals after losing that weekend series at home to Oakland. The A's, however, have travelled to NY and promptly watched two of their good young pitchers get whacked in the Bronx.

Hamilton will continue to carry this team into the playoffs, no worries.

Yep. Lee is the key to any post season success. Getting in the post season to play New York or Tampa Bay without a hot Cliff Lee, is going to end up being really ugly. *Sweep*

I hope they give Lee some rest down the stretch. They seemed determined to ride him 8 or 9 innings every outing win or lose.

Francouer will just be used as a right handed bat off the bench or to start against an occasional lefty. The Rangers had too many left handed bats to face top of the rotation lefties.

Can't wait to get Kinsler and Cruz both back and in a groove. hopefully get Hamilton some rest and watch the offense go to work.

They're not a lock. They have a 3.9% chance of not making the playoffs.

Francoeuer taint, and I spelled that French name wrong on purpose.

Nevertheless, they're wearing tin foil hats to deflect the "choke" transmissions.

Have the Rangers ever won a playoff series?

Joke is on them, the choke transmissions are in the water...

No they have only won 1 playoff game. They ran into the Yankees 3 times whenever they were winning World Series in the late 90's.

Yeah, that's true...they can't do it without Cliff. He's had bad outings his last 2 or 3 outtings.

I think it's the curse of Bob Short. The guy who moved from DC to Arlington in the first place after the 1971 season. I'm almost over it now, but I'm still irritated. Personally I think Lee will be back and in good form soon. Since my new team is in the National league, I've decided to root for the A.L. Rangers this fall. (I doubt we'll meet in the Series this year, ya think?).

I feel a strong Angels run coming. Wait who am I kidding.

They'll be fine. Cliff will turn it on when he needs to. Cruz and Kinsler will be back and healthy. I think all should be good in Ranger world. Although, regardless, I don't think they're going to be winning any playoff series'.
