Mike Singletary had to officiate, then moderate Vernon Davis' loud, animated spat with Michael Crabtree during the 49ers walk-through. And while Singletary wouldn't reveal what initiated the argument, there clearly could be team-wide frustration over Crabtree's nearly invisible practice and exhibition-game presence. Davis, too, has missed some time this summer, because of a minor injury, but he takes to his work and leadership role rabidly. ... Another way to put this: Thanks to last year's holdout and this year's neck tweak, Crabtree has played in exactly as many career NFL exhibition games as Lady Gaga has. Which would be zero.
