Relief in wake of Lee 'discomfort'

08:13 AM ET 09.02 | Cliff Lee was again not good this past Tuesday. He blew three leads -- in the first five innings. The Rangers ended up losing a game in which Lee started and the offense scored nine runs. Then Lee told the Rangers he's had discomfort in his lower back. And that the trouble pre-dated Tuesday. You would not believe Ron Washington's reaction. He was relieved.

Washington was 'relieved' that it was a back problem? i guess he's thinking at least it's not Lee's pitching arm. if you can't follow through properly, pitches will end up out over the plate...or worse, behind the catcher.

it was probably an impending fart...happens to me all the time. everyman needs a release every now and then.

I can dig it man....although Shady Acres Retirement Villa down the street seems to take flatulence very seriously, they have a club team

Ron was fresh off a cocaine BBQ when he said that...so I would take it with a grain of........ummmm....ummm

Though he is strugling now, it's the playoffs where his impact will be felt (hopefully not against the Yankees)

The Rangers still need to give Cliff Lee a little rest before the Playoffs.

Been a long season and Lee has pitched close to 200 innings. The way pitchers torque their body's, they get tweaks this time of year. Time to rest him before the playoffs

Makes sense to me. I think he'll be fine in the play-offs. Not so sure about the Rangers yet.
