08:21 AM ET 09.03 | Mike Brown is not the worst among a recent ranking of the NFL's owners, but he is close. To Brown's credit, he announced at last week's owners' meetings in Atlanta that he had changed his mind [on an 18-game season, even if it meant playing another game in chilly January] -- he'd rather have a ninth regular season contest at Paul Brown Stadium than a second preseason home game. There was just one caveat: no home games in January. When NFL schedule czar Howard Katz assured Brown, "You can be away the last month of the season," the owner enthusiastically agreed. Said one NFC owner: "There are 31 teams who'd rather play at home down the stretch ... and then there's Mike Brown."

Thank you. I was going to point that little fact out. He owns the Bengals.
Actually, he made some valid points if anyone would listen. Late January games in the North and NE are fine, as long as your team is still in it. If not, you may get less attendance than a preseason game. Schedule makers would/could influence final standings by playing with the home away schedule.
Hey, think about it. If you have 18 game seasons, then only ONE THIRD of your schedule is your own division opponents, and that just increases uneven schedules outside your Division to determine the winner. That ain't right!
If you go to 18 games, then division games need to count more, a point system if you would.....think about it.

quite the opposite for the Browns. They probably make more from road games.
