08:42 AM ET 09.04 | Reports began to surface Friday evening that teams were talking to the Cowboys about running back Marion Barber. The team's response? Cowboys officials say there have been no substantive talks involving Barber. He is not close to being traded and the club isn't looking to move him.

I know a lot of teams that could use him.

Trade Barber? Who is going to cut their hair?

Nice.

Alright Pats let's go get another potentionally beat-up, over the hill back. Honestly I think he would be more reliable than what they currently got. Cowboys should trade him now while they can get something for him.

I love the double-speak. In other words they are out fishing for deals. Barber is not the same guy he was 2-3 years ago. Back then he could really move a pile...not so much these days.

True, and it'll make up for the fact that they didn't get anything for Crayton.

They were going to take whatever was offered. This was more of a "body dump" than a salary dump. I wish Roy would take a dump and hit the highway. CRAP!!!

Today is the big day in football after the draft in April. Over 700 guys will get cut, 256 of them will get signed to practice squads, some taken. Trades and everything possible.
I love this Saturday a 6:00 p.m. when it all starts. Has already. The Giants traded for Rosenfals and a kick returner and Crayton goes to SD. The merry go round begins.

Barber was a great fourth quarter back, Cowboys lost him when they made him full time. He just can't run with the same punishing style against a fresh defense and for 4 quarters. He would still however, be a nice compliment to New England as someone mentioned.

September 4, 2010  09:46 AM ET

Barber simply isn't tradeable, with the main reason no other NFL team wants to take on the boated contract JJ gave him. If he didn't have the contract he does, then maybe, just maybe, he would garner some interest; however, JJ's GM skills have once again reared their head and now the Cowboys are stuck with Barber.

Jerry - give the fans what they really want by giving something to Roy Williams. A one-way ticket to Canada.

It would be stupid to trade Barber. Just plain stupid.

why all the t&r about the positions they dont need to worry about...why not a time to realize romo is not as good as you hyped him up as....nevermind it too close to the actual truth for them to print

September 4, 2010  10:27 AM ET

Funny how any QB in Dallas can put up some of the best numbers in the league, and not be good enough to walk on the field for 31 other teams. How long do you think Romo would be unemployed if he were cut. Romo or Barber would be an instant upgrade for at least 28 other teams.

It's presason, Otis. The whole offense is out of sync. Look on the bright sied, McGee was impressive against the Dolphins

Great analysis. Guess the Packers need to be looking for a replacement QB as well.

I'm telling you CD... they miss Kosier badly.

The key word in this article is "substantive". They aren't denying that there have been talks.
