08:56 AM ET 09.04 | Those eagerly awaiting to see how Notre Dame first comes out of the tunnel for the beginning of the Brian Kelly Era will find something lacking Saturday afternoon. Specifically: Notre Dame coming out of the tunnel. At least at first. Instead, the Irish will begin a new tradition announced by coach Brian Kelly at the campus pep rally Friday night: The team will walk through Sec. 31 at Notre Dame Stadium -- through the student section -- to take the field for pregame warmups. They'll still burst from the tunnel in the moments before kickoff.

Let's hope he restores the tradition that really matters: Winning.

So they are still coming out of the tunnel prior to kick-off? What is this then? I don't get it, I really do, but don't get why this matters or is important...and I've been a Domer my whole life.

I agree with Hoffa...let's get back to winning. I guess coach is trying to involve the students more and let the team feed off of that enthusiasm and build a stadium atmosphere. Winning and dominating opponents will do that more than anything.

Wow. This is a "news" item only because it's Notre Dame. Guess you gotta make up SOMETHING to fill the air time on your national TV network.

I hope Notre Dame returns to their winning tradition. They are one of a small number of schools that still keep the true meaning of student athlete unlike the majority of SEC schools. Remain independant and please please don't join the boring Big 10.

Go Irish, BEAT PURDUE! I don't just wanna see The Green Guys put up don't, but show me some defense too for a change. They've got the defensive front to stop the run, so either the DB's need to step up or we need extra pressure on the QB to rush him thru his progressions. GO IRISH!!!!!

This is a non-story, but a good idea. Kelly just wants things familiar.....he didn't have a tunnel to run out of at Cincy, WMU and Gran Valley State. Good luck Domers!

That was CMU not WMU

It's so simple, if you change the way you come onto the field for pre-game drills, you can't lose. If only Charlie Weiss had thought of this.

This truly takes "grabbing guys out of the stands to play" to a new level!

A concept lost on that program the last several years. College football was a lot more fun when the Irish were rolling.

Really? I've been watching Mich St., who also looks bad and I saw Florida was down 3-0 but just figured it was a first drive FG against them, just a temporary condition. I'll have to switch over!

God help Norte Dame if Brian Kelly is a failure. If this guy cannot turn it around, what do they do next?

September 4, 2010  01:22 PM ET

God help Norte Dame if Brian Kelly fails....What is Norte Dame going to do if Kelly cannot bring them back to glory days? They have tried just about everything. Might be time to hang it up at that point.

Ditto this. I think the FN interns are working on a quota system.

the only reason they are on the board is because of the defense.. 14 yards of offense in the first half = LOL, and they just failed to convert a 4th down.

those who thought its a seemless transition to a new qb are getting a wake up call.. florida is in trouble this year.

How? They are money, media attention **** like the rest of them. Actaully worse. They still get media time even though they haven't been able to play with anyone since '98. They are exactly what is WRONG with CFB. Them with the SEC are protecting thier $$$$$$$$. A playoff would prove they are not better then anyone. LETS GO BOISE AND BYU!!! BRING THE WALL DOWN!
