Should Yankees drop Jeter?

10:12 AM ET 09.04 | There are many ways to think about a lineup, but there is one inarguable concept when constructing a batting order: You want your best hitters to bat most frequently. So why does Derek Jeter continue to hit in one of the top two spots in the order? The short answer is because he is Derek Jeter. At this moment, Jeter is the weakest link in the everyday lineup, which means he should be batting eighth or ninth.

I think Jeter was clearly a Roider and that is why he is sucking so bad this years 'suddenly'. They should just kick him off the team.

I do not root for the Yankees but why change a lineup that is successful and why embarrass your team leader that only hit 334 last year? I notice there's usually not a name attached to these assanine comments and posts!!

You don't do it now in September while you're in a dogfight for the division and home field. But its something you definitely have to think about if June 1, 2011 arrives and he's hitting .268 again. Especially if you're 6 games out of first at the time.
Face it guys, the day's gonna come. He's a first ballot HOF'er, but the day's gonna come when he's not DEREK JETER anymore and he's just plain Derek Jeter. It's happened to everyone who ever played the game.

You must be crazy! Jeter is the Yankees! One thing I am sure of, Jeter will hit anywhere in the line-up if asked. No player in MLB does more for his team than Jeter. What you don't know is off the field leadership i.e. clubhouse etc. It will be a sad day in baseball when he retires.

Jeter is the Yankees, you don't embarrass your franchise player. It's one thing to bat AROD eight in the playoffs (something that I didn't like either) but he was not a Yankee like Jeter is. I hate to make this comparison because it's not fair to Jeter but when he retires it's going to be like when Ewing left the Knicks. That's when those that don't appreciate him now will appreciate him.

The next subject should be why he's the starting shortstop. But, I guess we can wait for that topic next year after he's signed some ridiculous contract that the Yankees will live to regret.

A great leader with a sinking average and sinking fielding range is called a bench coach.

I agree, but where do they put him? Move him to the outfield?
