Penguins not going anywhere

You can officially breathe a sigh of relief, Penguins fans. Your favorite hockey team is formally locked into Pittsburgh until June 30, 2040. The Penguins and the city-Allegheny County Sports & Exhibition Authority signed a lease for the new $290 million arena Tuesday, formalizing the agreement reached in March to keep the team in Pittsburgh. The Penguins, who will be responsible for the construction, hope to be playing in their new home at the start of the 2010-11 season.

All I can say is WOW! Why can't cities be that loyal to NFL teams?

So who's gonna move to KC now? My money's on the Predators.

A thirty some year lease? What are they thinking? Can't wait until 20 years in when the team complains again about the areana and wants more funding and threatens to leave to get thier way. Both side that signed this thing are nuts.

Good for the fans, but Come on!

Funny headline, 'Penguins not going anywhere.' I hope it's not a prediction of how their season will go! (DC)

Didn't KC lose a minor league team a year or two back? I just don't see how another area south of Ontario would WANT to support a hockey team.

While I would love to see a Portland, Oregon team it would fail to pull bodies in & fold in 5 years (if that long). I think Seattle, KC, and a ton of other <1,000,000 population cities are not able to support hockey.

I think that this was a great move by the city. This is a young team and they have arguably the best player in the NHL locked up.

This is a joke and as a Pennsylvania taxpayer who will help foot the bill I am outraged.

Granted I am a Philadelphian but the team has been in financial trouble and couldn't draw flies if they were covered in garbage prior to Crosby. They should've signed a 10 year lease because once Crosby is gone and the team struggles, they will have trouble selling out the Igloo (new) and be in the same situation they were in prior to Crosby.
