I'll sleep better at night knowing this

September 4, 2010  02:33 PM ET

Only makes sense
Hate to get everyone the track for the beginning of the season only to find out it is not race-able.
The track falling apart or whatever.
Hate to see a hour red flagged while they patch a brand new track.
Like fans would not turn off TV for that

Week 9 Daytona Repave Update;) Paving Moves To The High Banks; The crew from Lane Construction began the most challenging aspect of the 2010 Daytona Repave on Thursday morning - putting new asphalt on the steep 31-degree high banks of Daytona.

Workers paved the drainage layer in Turns 3 and 4, the first of four layers that will make up the 2.5 mile tri-oval. The crew completed the first 21-foot wide pass late Thursday and will pave the bottom 21-foot pass on Friday or Saturday. Paving of the other layers of asphalt in the Turn 3 and 4 high banks will continue through next week.

Other highlights from the ninth week of work on repaving Daytona include:
Installation of the under-drain pipe and trench on front stretch
The milling of asphalt on pit road has started
Paving of the overlay on the existing Supersuperstrech skid pad has begun

Jeff Burton, driver of the #31 Caterpillar CHEV for RCR, has scheduled a visit for next week to view all the progress on the project and assist Daytona, President Joie Chitwood III in burying a time capsule near the start/finish line.

Lane Construction, which repaved other ISC race tracks including Talladega, Homestead-Miami, Richmond, and Darlington, will use an estimated 50,000 tons of asphalt to repave more than 1.4 million square feet of Daytona and has a target completion date of Jan. 1, 2011.

Race fans can view the progression of the historic repaving project from a section of the Oldfield Grandstands, which will open free to the public. Track tours will also be available through attraction admission to Daytona 500 Experience.

Since there's not much conversation about this article, I thought I'd see what people think about this..

If Martin doesn't make the Chase (and he won't), does anyone see Hendrick swapping crew chiefs between Earnhardt and Martin? If there was going to be a time, it would be during the Chase when neither driver was competing for a championship. Neither driver has done all that well, Martin is leaving after next year anyway, and Hendrick has to try something else (yet again) to find someone that can work well with Jr.

Yes sir, that sure is a dilemna with Jr. Kyle is doing O.K. with his C.C. A few didn't think it was a good mix but all is well in Kyle Land. Who doesn't love love?

September 4, 2010  07:19 PM ET

I would hate to be in Hendrick's shoes because I know he likes Jr, but I don't know what else he could do for the kid. Maybe sit him down and tell him to start working with the crew chief instead of yelling at him.

I think Rick has addressed the issue a few weeks ago when he said that Lance McGrew was going to be the 88's crew chief next year.. but as always its subject to change the way Jr has been running

mcgrew will remain dale jrs crew chief in 2011.

Enjoy Labor Day weekend all. Oh, yeah, I'm repaving my driveway this weekend. I'll start testing it on Thursday.

Nah...not wishful thinking. Not a Jr. fan here, just speculation on my part. I completely missed those statements by Hendrick. If anything, I'd like to see Martin have a decent shot next season.

Great to see the #88 in Victory Lane. What, that wasn't Jr. Awww shucks.

Jr's rarely enter the playground known as the nationwide series.

i quoted JK because he likes to see Jr swap crew chiefs so he can continue his bashing.. he fails to see the obvious as usual (Hendrick as a whole has been off this year)..

that comment was not directed at you at all.. imo, if they both dont make the chase it would be an interesting experiment to swap CC's for the last 10 races.. what harm could it do?

lol @ interupting todd bodines celebration in victory lane because he got called out
lol @ crying to his crew chief during the last 10 laps of the nationwide race..

Watch those little kids, you'll have names all over the cement. I used to have to dress my asphalt drive every couple years or so, now that was a mess. And enjoy, yourself.

Your obsession with Kyle Busch is most disturbing.

No problem. I though the same thing. I would think that both need some sort of change, and now is the perfect time. Neither of them have anything to lose since they're not in the Chase, they both work out of the same garage, so it's not a huge switch there, and they both need some sort of jump start.

As far as Hendrick being off this year, to some degree I agree. But Johnson/Knaus are notorious for using the regular season as the time to experiment on setups for the Chase. They always turn it up during Chase season. And Gordon, despite being winless, is still number 2 in the standings. When it's all said and done, Gordon and Johnson will both be ahead of Kyle in the Chase standings (sorry JK).
