08:54 AM ET 09.05 | Don't look for Matt Leinart in Seattle. Persons close to the team tell me it's not going to happen. Apparently, Seattle is satisfied with its two quarterbacks, Matt Hasselbeck and Charlie Whitehurst, despite Whitehurst's inconsistent play this summer. But the club paid a steep price to acquire Whitehurst from San Diego and envisions him as Hasselbeck's successor, and the Seahawks didn't want to complicate the situation by introducing another young quarterback. Plus, the Seahawks have plenty of money invested in the position.

All dressed up and no where to go......

Well Chicago is nice this time of year....

This guy needs to go to a blue collar city where there are no divas and distractions.

Guess he should have kept his mouth shut.

On a side note, why is it that every NFL player with ties to USC thinks Coach Carroll will welcome them back with open arms, despite positive drug tests, poor or inconsistent play, etc.?

There is always the hot tub for Matt. He seems to be comfortable in that environment.

i don't know what hurts this guy more, his play on the field or his attitude when he is not playing. Teams just do not want to deal with him.

September 5, 2010  09:32 AM ET

I think Seattle would be about the best fit for him, he doesn't look like a starter and could be groomed to be solid long-term back-up to Whitehurst (if he pans out). Other than that I don't see many landing spots... Jacksonville, Chicago or Buffalo maybe.

..and get a blue collar job.

September 5, 2010  09:54 AM ET

Leinart is still capable of being the best QB at USC.

I suspect teams feel the former could be curable but the latter is just way too much to deal with.

A little humility would serve young Matt well - maybe a tour in the UFL is appropriate here.

A tour in the U.S. Marines would likely be more helpful.

Hmmm... lots of discipline, GI-style haircuts, and non-existent access to hot tubs.

Oh well, there's always the Arena League...

September 5, 2010  10:38 AM ET

The fact that they released him outright, and didn't try to get anything in return via a trade, speaks to the difficulty that Leinart gave them. It is possible that no other team was interested enough to even offer anything for him. I don't think I've ever seen such a highly rated QB fall so far in so short a time (and don't say Ryan Leaf, because anyone who followed him knew he was an imposter to begin with). Maybe Tim Couch, but even he got to start for a while.

September 5, 2010  11:12 AM ET

The Bucs could use him....shame for this guy..he went from AWESOME to TERRIBLE....sad.

I still would like to know what really happened with Carroll, and Housh....

They realized that without a dominant #1 on the other side of the field to take all of the double coverage away, Housh is nothing more than an average receiver.....and really, really overpaid.

After a week or two into the season when QB's start getting banged up he'll become a hot commodity.

Bingo. Actually he wears his emotions on his sleeve, has lost his confidence, and tends to blame one of the better, likable, more understanding coach for his troubles. Plus that pouty look all thru preseason didn't help

September 5, 2010  11:34 AM ET

All this talk about Leinart and not one peep about a Heisman jinx? After all Leinart did for Carroll and no love in return?, maybe this is an indicator of how USC treats their players. They buy them, use them as fodder and then claim not to know them when times are tough.

Wow....thats one of the most ignorant comments I've read in a long time. What does Pete Carroll owe Matt Leinart? Why should he sign him onto his roster, if he's already got the QB's that he wants for his football team? Just because Leinart was good for Carroll at USC, doesn't mean Carroll needs to repay him, and certainly doesn't say ANYTHING about the way USC treats any of their players. Besides, Carroll is paying out A LOT of money to his top 2 QB's.

And really, using your logic, maybe Leinart owes Carroll for making him into a very talented college QB who has made some pretty good cash in the NFL. Get a clue.

jets and bengals are taking plenty of players with character issues, he'll find a home somewhere. if not, i hear jamarcus russell has a room to rent, i'm sure they could share their sob stories in comfort.
