Revis quit on Asomugha paper chase

08:26 AM ET 09.06 | The Darrelle Revis sideshow may have ended in part because of one factor. In the end, Revis gave up on his attempt to match or beat the deal given to Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. Asomugha's deal has an average of $15.1 million; Revis' deal works out to $11.5 million, far short of the Asomugha average. So what gives? Though some will say that the Jets persuaded the Revis camp that the Asomugha deal represents yet another crazy move by the Raiders, the more likely reality is that Revis and his agents finally conceded that being the best defensive player in the league and the highest-paid defensive player in the league are two different things.

I hope for the sake of Jets fans that he's been keeping in shape. How many times have we seen guys, particularly runningbacks, hold out for big dollars and when they finally play, something goes very wrong? I'm thinking Jamaal Anderson of the Falcons.

I'm sure he has. It's easier for WRs because they don't get the contact intensity. Just glad it's finally over.

Now that he got the big money I bet his play falls way off for a couple years and then time and wear will take their toll. We have seen Revis's best year.

Poor little fellar had this helpless look on his face, like he didn't want to fart so much but couldn't help it. The best part is that before the carnage commenced, he was sitting on the couch with my wife, and then bam!

seriously.
This guy needs to come back and step back into that leadership role....a vocal role.
Glad to see that we're better prepared on D this season. Back to being the best in the NFL.

Do you think the D will be able to gel in time to be ready for the season? They played exceedingly well last year, but how long does it take for them to adjust to Revis being back?

i honestly don't think they need to adjust very much, if at all. Revis plays in man coverage, for the most part...sometimes with safety help over the top. I don't see any gelling necessary. It's not like he's a QB or a WR, where you need timing. I just worry about injury. Hope Rex doesn't overwork him next Monday....it's a long season.
But it's clear that this defense just got A LOT better. Cromartie as your #2 DB makes me much more confident than when he was #1. I also worry about Kyle Wilson as a nickleback....he spent the entire preseason (and college) on the outside. it's gonna be an adjustment....especially against Welker and the Pats week 2.

No time at all. That is why he is so important. They just put him all alone on your best receiver and that leaves your safeties to double the next best.
He is the key, and he is that good. Good deal for him and the Jets, and worth every penny.

Morning Stu... just guessing but remembering how Deion impacted the team when he came back each season I suspect the Defense will be fine.
Now we can go back to discussing the real question on the J-E-T-S which is at the QB position.
