08:34 AM ET 09.06 | Heading into its Monday morning matchup, the United States may have the host country to worry about. Spain is good with a depth of talent we know about. Argentina has the best player so far in the tournament in Luis Scola. Brazil already almost beat the USA. Greece has been very good and has the motion offense that can give the USA fits. Turkey is playing better than all of them. And Turkey might be the toughest matchup for the USA. If these two teams meet, the USA could meet their match.

Turkey just beat France, so I think they are legit! Scola is a one-man show, can't pose too much trouble.
Anything other than Gold would be a HUGE disappointment.

Agreed on the Gold...
The only type of team that will give the US trouble is the team that can put 5 guys on the 3 point line and start hitting shots consistently...
Nobody is run with the US or beat them in the paint.

Honestly, I would love to see USA bring home the gold, but this tournament means nothing. The NBA has the best players in the world. I have lived in the S.Korea and China and those leagues are full of Americans who couldn't even get off the bench at University.
But superior talent doesn't always show in this type of tournament. The perfect example is the Chinese team, playing for that team is like a job. Those guys practice together a lot more often and for longer than team USA. I mean come on, team USA has been together for like a month, the Chinese National team has been meeting up to practice since they were 12. There is one guy on the Chinese squad who can cut it in the NBA (Yi) and he is IMO a complete flop as an NBA player, but basketball is a team sport and practicing together can help a team overcome its deficiencies. If we really wanted to guarentee USA gold in tournaments like this we would send the NCAA champion or runnerup, perhaps not as skilled, but superior team work.
