Steelers going with Dixon

07:58 AM ET 09.07 | On a day their one-time captain was not re-elected, his one-time backup's backup learned he'd take a turn in the Week 1 spotlight. Dennis Dixon gives the Steelers' offense a different dimension since he is a dual-threat quarterback. He won over teammates last season in his only career start when he nearly led the Steelers to a win at Baltimore. Save for one bad game in Denver, Dixon excelled during training camp and the preseason. "This is every quarterback's dream, to get an opportunity to start in the National Football League," Dixon said. "I just want to be even keeled and [put] my team in the best situation."

I guess Ben is going to take this crap lying down.

Slash 2.0 drops this weekend. On many levels.

As Flacco is going to have to raise his game until Reed gets back, the Steelers D is going to have to do the same.

Remind anyone of the great Jefferson Street Joe?

We'll see. Hopefully he'll be a better passer and secision maker than Stewart was. Kind of ironic that he's wearing Number 10 now eh?

I would take Stewart 10 times over Dixon. I hope he proves me wrong, but the kid has shown me nothing except that he can run.

Well good thing he can move because that O line looks to be about as bad, if not worse, as it was last season. Dixon will need to make alot of plays with his feet.

Ya right. Pouncey will take up 3 defenders by himself.

What are you basing that view on?

Optimism alone. But seriously, they're not going to be worse than last year's group. As previously stated, Pouncey is a beast. He played so well that the Steelers just cut Hartwig. He will be the anchor of that line and a Pro Bowlers for many years to come. Kemoeatu is a solid run blocker. Essex is terrible but there's really no one else, unless someone beats him out during the season. Adams will be serviceable as RT is not a hard position to play. Colon was good, but not good enough where its going to be hard to replace his productivity. Max Starks, well, they'll just have to get over that for another year now. He is the gaping hole that plays left tackle.

I don't know about taking Stewart 10 times over Dixon, but you're right, Dixon hasn't showm much on the passing department. But, he really hasn't had a chance to other than in pre-season games so the jury is sitll out IMHO.

A rookie starting at center is always a concern especially when the division has two pro bowl DT in Ngata with the Ravens (who along with great talent has non stop effort) and Shaun Rogers (who could be better than Ngata if he actually put in the effort). I think the biggest concern they have is the guy you alluded to Starks. Bad spot to have the weakest link be the LT, yikes and from what I saw of Adams in the preseason (specifically the Detroit game) he looks pretty bad. Before the pre season even started I thought Dixon as the starter made the most sense because of the O line question marks. Should make for an interesting season for your Steelers. Best of luck to your team.

Pouncy looks like the real deal for sure, but overall, they are not a great unit.

Pouncey handled some very good DT's in the preseason and some rookie centers have been having a lot of success lately. Mangold in NY and Mack in Cleveland. It will be an interesting season for sure.
