Lakers have weight clause for Caracter

08:06 AM ET 09.07 | Derrick Caracter may have impressed the Lakers enough to earn a contract offer, but that doesn't mean it will come without some strings attached. Conditioning -- and a commitment to it -- was the question about Caracter coming into the draft. Skills and body he had, but what about the work ethic and desire? The Lakers came up with a clever way to push him, as reported by Sham Sports: Caracter has a $473,000 contract this year with $250,000 guaranteed. If Caracter weighs 275 pounds or less on Sept. 10, the contract becomes fully guaranteed.

You may not think so but I think it is a monumental. The league needs that to make sure we get people that deserve the opportunity and are good role models. Eddy Curry is clearly the reason but there's other things that should give teams the ability to void a contract or reduce a player's income. These should include
1. substance abuse. Take Wilson Chandler for example. Recovering from multiple surgeries he smoke pot in broad day light while driving. I'm talking a proffessional athlete entering a contract year... if someone's that stupid to risk his health and proffession he doesn't deserve to be in the league. You wonder why he's not suspended.
Then there's the Indiana guy that did whatever with his girlfriend... I mean wtf... you haven't even played a game yet and ur already causing trouble? As for Eddy Curry if Lebron didn't tell the Knicks to have his buddy train him I think the MSG lawyers would have filed a criminal law suite against him for negligence of his own body that's cost the organization a lot of money. Forget suspending him without pay - the guy needs to go to jail. Zach Randolph, the list goes on... lets get rid of all these bums.

Caracter was actually one of the top recruits in the country and was a prize recruit for Louisville until he had issues with Pitino. He then transferred to UTEP and was drafted by LA in the second round. He then played pretty well in the summer league. I mean, since you asked.

Caracter does have the potential. It was amazing that he dropped into the Lakers' lap but that was due to his earlier problems. I am hoping that both he and Ebanks develop into solid rotation players.

Always a thumbs down from jgb.
The Nostradamus of FN when it comes to dire forecasts, though if you are a gambling man, going against what jgb says is your winning ticket.
