Hoosiers QB proved Zook wrong
Kellen Lewis said he doesn't spend much time thinking about the schools that told him he couldn't play quarterback in college. The list was long. Florida, for one, was interested, but only if the Jacksonville, Fla., native would sign as an "athlete." The Florida coach was Ron Zook -- the man who must find a way to stop Lewis and the unbeaten Hoosiers today. Zook continued to recruit Lewis after arriving at Illinois. But Lewis said those phone calls eventually ended, too, and he was left with a difficult decision. He could A) play major college football at another position, or B) accept an offer from one of the three small schools that wanted him to play quarterback.Lewis chose "C," and opted for prep school. A week before he was to leave, Indiana called. The Hoosiers had two quarterbacks heading into fall camp and needed another.
