08:01 AM ET 09.08 | Argentina's Luis Scola submitted a performance that may have locked down the tournament MVP in Turkey. Tuesday Scola had a stunning performance. Even the shots he tried to miss went in. Scola dropped in 37 points, shooting 13-of-19 inside the arc, and had nine rebounds leading Argentina to a dramatic 93-89 win. Lest you think this was a one-time thing, he leads the tournament, averaging 30.3 ppg. ... Scola has never had to breakout and lead the Houston Rockets the way he has Argentina. But you watch this play and you realize why he is so valuable to Houston -- this is a guy who can quietly do a lot and can perform under pressure.

not Andy Varejao ?

Durant is unselfish enough to sacrifce scoring to defer to the "hot" shooter (billups and gordon against Angola is prime example) I don't think scola has that luxury....so more is asked of scola and he delivers...

Scola is balling and I am enjoying watching him play in the Olympics.. Scola is just a good solid all around big man who has serious down low post moves. He gives even the top tier pf in the nba some problems with his post game.

Scola is like an all star caliber player not named to the all star team.He is a very smart player and does all the right things quietly indeed. He does have a slight edge over Durant in world game play.

A vastly underrated player in the NBA. Two years ago, when the rockets played the lakers to that game seven... he was the main reason why.

Very Underated player

If you look at PPG, yes. Couple that with creating opportunities for your teammates - I'm not sure. Either way, Scola is vastly underrated and is showing it right now.

Scola trade to the Rockets, one of the worst trades ever

the spurs should have never traded that guy. He would have fit perfect next to Duncan.

Come to LA, Bro.

He plays the same position as Duncan and he's better than a bench player so they had to get something for him... sometimes you gotta take your losses. The alternative will be to replace Duncan with him but I won't even wish that on Pat Riley who traded a number 2 overall pick for two second rounders...

No.With Scola there Duncan would finally move his soft arse to Center. It was a disgrace to watch Mcdyess play center while Duncan plays power forward.Foolishness!I respect Duncan as a player but my goodness he should be playing center.A front court of both he and Scola would be lethal. Two guys in the post that can get you a double double.

There's only one ball. You can't have two people that do the same thing playing the same position. Did you see Duncan in the playoffs... he couldn't even run back to cover the 4 spot which led to wide open shots for Suns... if he played center it would have been a layup drill instead of three point bombardment...

Personally I think he needs to come off the bench if his knees still aren't right. He's had a good run with it but Osteoporosis has set in...

Duncan could easily play center in todays NBA. And at his age would probably be a better stop for him at this point.

Yea, the market for centers is very small

so instead of keeping Scola and pairing him with Duncan you like that they've used guys like McDyess/Bonner/old Kurt Thomas/Oberto/and now Splitter????

come on now, the Spurs flat messed this one up there's no other way about it

whats up Dee?

I think Scola is a hell of a player that can score but doesnt mind doing the dirty work as well !

However i dont think he is as good as Durant but the World Games is abit different !

The worst error that the Spurs FO has ever made...<sigh>...they really "knicked" that one up....

they sure did...LOL !

Wow did i just read that Duncan should come off the bench?

Yea the guy is old & not capable like he use to be but coming off the bench would be a slap in the face to the guy...if you have guys like Shaq, Jermaine O'Neal, Big Z starting there is now way Duncan should hit the bench...move him to C yes i agree to that !

Damn who was guarding that guy?
