08:18 AM ET 09.08 | This is a good time of year for young debuts on teams out of the playoff race, and Dillon Gee certainly left an impression in his. Making his major league debut in place of the injured Johan Santana, Gee took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before settling for his first career victory in a 4-1 win over the Nationals. "That went better than expected," Gee said, laughing. "I kind of blacked out, I think. I don't even know what happened out there." What happened was Gee more than handled a Nationals team that exploded for 13 runs a night earlier, transforming a spot start into an audition for future work.

Who were going for their sixth win in a row I believe.... great job by the kid last night. Interesting mix of pitches - throwing the high fastball at 88, then one at the knees around 92.

Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come.

88-92...his location must have been great.

"...a Nationals team that exploded for 13 runs a night earlier..."

...which has really nothing to do with anything.

this team should had played with their minor league system from game one, why the mets always sign players to a big contracts? after few games the player who should had been their star, just falls to his nose and its out for the season but for the mean while the organitation has to pay him what its on the contract regardless the outcome, like i said before this team always has too much money that at the end must go to the trash!!!

no kidding. makes me think of the last two Red Sox games. two nights ago the sox killed the rays and the boston writers and some of the fans just figured the offense woke up and they were back in the race....and then Dice K craps the bed last night and the Rays creamed the sox..too much focus on one game, at bat, inning, etc.....

This is the way the media reports sports...you are only as good as your last game or run...conversely you are aparently as bad as your last game and will never return to form.

the only team that could have this luxury are the yankees, because very seldom make mistakes when its about signning a new & good skill player to a long term deal!!

its maddening with a 162 game season.

it really is...

Rookie pitches well for a couple weeks in the begining he is a cy Young candidate, he falters after that and he is a bust...

I love how they want to anoint him a starter after one good outing. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.
