08:07 AM ET 09.10 | Nolan Ryan was asked in a live chat Thursday why Cliff Lee, who will start against a potential playoff opponent in the Yankees this weekend, didn't make the club aware of his back issues, and whether it might be wise to skip an opportunity to show New York his stuff. Ryan: "We were disappointed he didn't make us aware of his back stiffness. We're optimistic, though, that he will be back to his old self by his next start." ... "Every time a pitcher faces a team, the hitters on that team develop a comfort level of knowing what to face from a pitcher. The only time I don't like to see it is when a pitcher faces the same team in back-to-back starts. Then, I really think it favors the hitters."

Lee is a jack-ass

youse guys! MLB needs to grow some and salary cap your ass, like they do in NFL.

worthless story

Cliff Lee disappointed Seattle too.

September 10, 2010  09:51 AM ET

He will be on the Yankees next year anyways. Poor Cleveland fans, the talent that team puts out is ridiculous. Imagine that rotation had they kept all there guys? Sabathia, Lee, Carmona, Westbrook, thats a pretty damn solid rotation. Not to mention they traded V-Mart to my Sox. I feel for ya Cleveland....between LeBron and your Indians its gotta be tough.....

What do you think was more disappointing, Lee's 2.34 era with Seattle, or his .94 whip or perhaps his 14.8 strikeouts per walk, because that is really bad pitching.

The Rangers acquired him for their drive to the playoff and he bombed. Of course they're disappointed. His little injury and lying about it might cost him some zeroes next year.

Probably the 2-5, 4.69 effort since being traded to the Texas is what's disappointing. Unless you think that's good pitching.

the comment was he disapointed Seattle

September 10, 2010  10:00 AM ET

It'll be interesting to see how the FA reacts to his effort this year. He had good seasons in 2005, 2008 and 2009. He's 31 years old and has some current injury issues, including with his back (which is a huge concern). I wouldn't want my team to write a big contract for 4-5 years on this guy.

Right. Sorry. He pitched very well in Seattle. Seattle just imploded.

I believe his demand to be traded was the biggest disappointment to Seattle...

... what about yourself?

Lee didn't demand a trade Seattle any more than he did from Philadelphia. He made it clear he would want a fair market contract as every player in his situation would. After their poor perfomance Seattle decided they were never going to lay out the money needed to keep him and therefore traded him so they at least eneded up with young prospects.

Even in 09, his combined record in Cleveland and Philly was only 14-13........

I never heard anything about Lee demanding a trade..........I believe that was the Mariners idea, they just gave up.
