08:16 AM ET 09.10 | Teams often prefer to shroud their hyped marketing efforts. The Buffalo Sabres, who are preparing to celebrate their 40th anniversary season, promised a commemorative jersey that would reflect the city's hockey roots. The team has accomplished that, though folks are seeing the new sweater much earlier than the Sabres would have liked. Photos of the Sabres' new third jersey and new full-time white sweater have been leaked on the Internet prior to the official unveiling set for Sept. 18. The photos, apparently taken anonymously because of a confidentiality agreement signed by most parties involved in the manufacture of the jerseys, spread quickly throughout Sabreland and were confirmed as authentic by several parties who have seen the sweaters.

Wow! Does it get any worse? Maybe they should put General Petraeus in charge of "Sweater Security".

Looks like Wikileaks is now targeting the NHL. Too bad the interns couldn't find one of those pictures on that new fangled internet thingie.

Leaked (p*$$ed) on?

I hate new sweaters. Especially when nothing was wrong with the old ones. Just a cash grab to get kids to now want the new one at Xmas....

It's really a good thing Hank. It's cold in Buffalo so it's nice to have something else to burn in the fireplace come January when they're sitting around remembering being eliminated by Boston last spring.

Loved the old ones that Perreault, Martin, Robert and the boys wore back in the 70s...

Me also. These are almost identical, I don't get it. If you're going to bring out something NEW then make some noticable changes.

I always found Rene to be lacking a wee bit but Gil and Rick were the real deal.

In 75? when they lost to Philly I was pulling for them (even though I liked the Bullies) but Jim Lorentz hexed them by whacking the bat out of the air.....

What do you recommend? A Buff-a-slug? Oh, wait...

Yes, they were. Do any teams have lines with nicknames anymore? The last one I remember in Philly was the Legion of Doom.

The buffalo could be bigger, might help stop a few goals

I know sometimes the announcers try too hard to give a line a name. Haven't heard any good ones for a while.

I always liked the Purple People Eaters.

I hate the numbers on the front of the jersey...

The New third is actually not the one pictured. Go to Buffalonews.com to see it. It's a tribute to the Old Buffalo Bisons from the 50's and 60's.
