08:41 AM ET 09.11 | The black Audi S8 sedan Patriots quarterback Tom Brady walked away from after a crash Thursday morning was a loaner -- a perk from a nonprofit he supports, Best Buddies International Inc. The $97,000 car with New Jersey license plates is one of several cars Audi says it provides to Best Buddies in a sponsorship deal. The German car maker has been a sponsor of the nonprofit, which benefits people with mental disabilities, since 2007. It provides cars to the organization and supports a number of its events, including a fund-raising bicycle ride from Boston to Hyannis, which Brady chairs.

Looks like a nasty accident. I hope they throw the book at the guy who hit him. I guess he had already had a suspended license and other violations.

Why would a guy who makes $19MM/year even bother with a 'loaner'?

In case there is an accident, wouldn't want to dent up one of your nice cars. Plus those Audis' have some safety features, Tom has probably been in worse shape after a game.

The guy that hit him had a bunch of priors (and he is only 21 or 22).

Wait a second...
A 'nonprofit' organization is loaning out a $97,000 car? That just doesn't sound right!

It's a 'sponsorship' deal....

"Audi, the official car of Best Buddies International!".

Yeah, that'll generate the business. Good marketing.

September 11, 2010  09:54 AM ET

Just be glad you weren't riding a loaner bike from the other non-profit organization Tom.

I wish I could get a loaner car, but I guess you gotta be connected well. They would even loan me the cool little golf cart when I coached middle school football.

September 11, 2010  10:06 AM ET

Would you want to be the guy that takes out the qb in the street? Fortunately Brady was not hurt, but...I would not want to have an entire region coming after me. Good luck to that schmuck.

You could have gotten a free golf cart in 2009. John Stossel got one using the Obama energy tax credit. He bought an electric golf cart and received a tax credit for the entire purchase price.

As I typed the above, I realized the humor potential in an Obama tax credit benefiting a golf cart purchase, but I'll leave that for others.

S8 is nice ride but I would have asked for the R8..

meh

Seriously?!? Damn--I wish I had known about that.

I always liked Stossel. He has a very good BS detector!

I'm glad he's ok, and with all the fame, fortune and perks that go along with it, the dude can get t-boned in traffic like the rest of us.

When he got home, Gisele closely examined that face looking for potential scars. One minor disfigurement and she would have been gone. Bad enough she's with a guy that's prettier than she is.

In all seriousness, thank God we live in a country where we can actually make jokes about our leaders and not wake up with a bullet in the head. This is the best place of them all. Today, more than any other day, makes me realize that. Thank God those vicious zealots didn't succeed in bringing us down. I hope we never forget and stay ever vigilant.

Well said.

Pretty common the more famous you are to get more stuff for free, even someone making that much money (about 9.2 million after agent, taxes [local very]) wants to have a different car to drive every month. Kobe has a Helicopter loaned to him in LA he fly's to events provided in much the same way.

Now if we could just stop blowing money on stirring up and chasing those zealots who will always be there and we will never defeat with strength of arms. Lets spend it on this country so we can wake up and see the doctor with out going broke like the other top industrial countries and also reverse the trend that started since Regan of working harder for less money.

You need to get your facetious/sarcasm meter checked. It's not working. Like I didn't know that already?
