For all the mistakes LeBron made this summer, perhaps his biggest was failing to believe he needed Team USA far more than it needed him. That Olympic gold medal was far more about Kobe Bryant and Dwyane Wade two years ago, and James still never has taken a team that belonged to him and won a title. He needed the work for his leadership and image.

"It's been said that LeBron could've benefited here this summer," USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo said. "But it was never a consideration."

Team USA wouldn't have turned away James, but privately they'll all tell you it's been a relief to have him tweeting from 5,000 miles away.

it makes you wonder why team USA ever got beat with James wade and Bosh... Clearly even this "B team" as they have been called is good enough to win gold.

Because "A" players all want to be the man! Last time I check basketball was a team of 5 players.

JGB for the record, you're alright with me, but I still think you're a jackass. Now with that being said, where should our venom be placed?

My thoughts exactly, and why is my venom misplaced? I have my venom in the proper places thank you. Lebron is one and ALL politicians is the other...LOL....

I mean, you just don't get it.......It was ok to be pissed at him.......but its been 2 months and its time to move onHe did NOTHING wrong with opting out and leaving, he did it in a childish manner....but he's been a spoiled brat for years, not sure why your so surprised at the latest anticthe problem is you can't let the venom go

Nope, we can't and we won't. And why is it so important to let it go? My biggest hope is that Lebron becomes a failure. There I said it...I have venom and I'm also vindictive...LOL....And I could care less who doesn't like it... I just make sure I keep this in completely a sports context...I have no trouble sleeping and it doesn't dominate any part of my life....Ok I lied it does dominate it here...LOL....But only here on this Fabulous Truth and Rumors where I can vent and be unreasonable and it's not really important....LMAO...

I too am glad he stayed home, else we'd all have to suffer through 2-3 lebron stories a day from FN instead of the quota of one. IMHO LBJ can't ever repair his image. This isn't the same thing as Kobe demanding a trade or running shaq out, and haters dont forget kobe will hear about that til the day he dies, this comes off as much worse to the american public. Only the LBJ fanclub of fans of MIA can be apologist or understanding of the way he did business this summer, it was childish and disgusting. If this guy lived in the real world and not basketball, he wouldn't even be qualified for a job at mcdonalds (no offense to people who work there)

No matter how many rings LBJ has he will always be known as the rat who fled CLE and embarressed himself in the process. LBJ has permanently shamed his image in a way that Kobe never did. Kobe may have been a jerk, but we can forgive jerks. What we can't forgive is childish impetulence. If karma exists in the real world then LBJ will never get a ring and if he doesnt, he will retire as the biggest loser in NBA history.

But honestly, enough about LBJ this summer FN! Luvher said it best a page back and I'll repeat his sentiments... this is really a slap in the face to US basketball. THey are on the verge of winning a world championship and all FN can talk about is LBJ still. Why not how Durant/Westbrook/Chandler/Billups and the gang are tearing up the scene overseas? Durant looks like a monster the NBA better be ready for the thunder in the future. Westbrook and Durant look like the coaching of the olympic team has opened their games up further then before. Watch out WC, the thunder won't be kept down long. They are one big center away from being the favorites. Not this year, but soon my friends at FN their time is coming..

People keep saying our dominance in hoops is over, I beg to differ. We didn't even send a back-up center to this tournament and we're having VERY little trouble. Unlike Kobe and his surgery, James had no reason to skip other than he didn't want to play. Fine. No Olympics for him.

He'll be on the next team - cant be a global icon if the world is not watching. We are all witnesses. He is still ringless

If you go back and read Wojo's article about the 08 olympic team, Coach K and the coaching staff didn't WANT to bring LBJ along so it is not surprised they are relieved he isn't around. He was demanding, a crybaby, and just HAD to have his posse around him and in the locker room at all times. In fact, his immaturity got to the point where they were going to leave him behind until NIKE intervened and begged the coaching staff to take him for marketing reasons, and of course NIKE told LBJ to quit being such a child for the tourny which he did. I would think if it was up to the coaching staff, they would leave LBJ behind in 2012 but it all depends on how much sway NIKE has in this, which may be surprisingly high.
