Penguins question new sweaters
The Penguins agree, pretty much to a man, that the high-tech sweaters they will be wearing this season are lighter and more comfortable than the ones they replaced. They also concur that the new sweaters are extremely effective at repelling moisture, exactly as planned. Trouble is, quite a few have concluded that is not necessarily a good thing. Right winger Mark Recchi, for one, understands what the league was trying to accomplish by adopting a sweater that does not absorb fluids, but does not think the designers took into account the moisture -- to wit, perspiration -- generated under a player's uniform. "[The sweaters] don't soak anything in, which I guess is what they wanted," Recchi said. "But the problem is, it goes through all of your equipment. It goes into your gloves, goes into your skates." And eventually saturates the leather in both, leaving the players feeling as if their hands and feet are immersed in liquid.

They are not the only team to complain about the new jerseys. Several Philadelphia Flyers players hate how snug the new jerseys are and the team is now ordering the jersey two sizes bigger so they hang like a sweater. So much for the militant midgets new form fitting jerseys.

this was a stupid idea from the start, and was nothing more than a money grab by the league and by reebok - none of the players like them and no real hockey fan is going to like them. They are trying to strip hockey of EVERY tradition they have, turning it into some sort of Ba**ard game nowadays, with these retarded "futuristic" jerseys. I'm glad that more and more teams are complaining about them - maybe we'll get back REAL jerseys sooner that way

That didn't take long, did it? Trying to re-invent the wheel. Sounds about right. It's the NHL after all! Nobody can accuse upper management in the NHL of being smart! (DC)

Hmm, not surprising thougyh. They honestly needed an open weave on the sides or something. More airflow would help immensely to help in evaporation.

hopefully this will end up being like the new ball the nba had last year- the players complained enough, and they got them changed.

That's what happens when your big decision maker knows nothing of the game. Has this man ever played any sport besides maybe golf or tennis? Maybe Bettman and Mr. Bush should get together some time and talk shop.

They (NHL) are trying to improve goal scoring, this would be funny if it actually hindered it.

Does anybody know if the NHLPA was considered any input in this matter? I'm assuming Reebok and/or the NHL tested these jesey's first for a couple of seasons right? . . . . . would'nt that make sense ? If they did . . . . where and who did they test? . . . . but then again . . .who am I fooling here ? This has evil midget written all over it . . .again

Supposedly, players were in on the design process but I don't think they were tested in 'game formats' except the All Star game last year. They should have had the minor league teams test for a few games...
