10:18 AM ET 09.12 | It'll be interesting to see whether the Boston Red Sox, who have a $12.5 million option on lefty DH David Ortiz's contract for next season, make a run at Minnesota Twins lefty DH Jim Thome, 40, when Thome becomes a free agent after the season. Ortiz turns 35 in November.

Yeah I'm pretty sure they will pick up Ortiz's option. He's had a good year and puts butts in the seats. Worthless bit of "news".

I believe it's time to say good bye to Papi. Resign VMart and let him become your every day DH. His versatility at 1B and backup catcher is much more valuable. Use that extra money and go out and try and find a LF like Carl Crawford or Jason Werth.

Great point on Papi and V-Mart!!
Let Thome go back home and DH for the ChiSox and let Papi take return to the Twins and replace Thome as DH... Manny Ramirez will find his way to New York or back to Cleveland.

Personally i'd love to see them go out and get Jason Werth.

If that's the case, then they could just move Drew to LF...........He's only got one more year in Boston anyway.

Signing Thome to replace Ortiz isn't logical...
... one over the hill DH to replace an aging DH.
Ortiz is not the same without Manny, but, he's still a threat.

Werth can indeed play Leftfield... Believe me seen him play LF in the miniors and with the Dodgers when he came-up to the Majors.

Good point there; So if Thome were to opt out of Minnesota and Boston signed him to replace Papi. This would allow Ortiz to join the White Sox and be protected by Manny Ramirez again...
Or if Manny wears out his stay in Chicago-- Both Ramirez and Ortiz could unite in Cleveland

"Both Ramirez and Ortiz could unite in Cleveland"
But why would either Manny or Papi "want' to go to Cleveland......?

How much of a paycut would Big Papi have to take to stay in Boston? I don't see Theo throwing more money or years to Papi, will he stay for less?
