Did Portland ignore advice to take Durant?

07:54 AM ET 09.13 | If it were up to Kevin Ma, the Blazers absolutely would have taken Kevin Durant over Greg Oden. A usual night for Oden in college was 12 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks. Plug those numbers in to any formula and it'll spit out something saying that Kevin Durant is the better basketball player. Which is exactly what the Blazers' long time statistical consultant Jeff Ma did. And what did his numbers say? Take Durant. ... "There are very few statistical measures that would have rated Oden's system in college better than Durant's. Oden was injured his entire career, that one season at Ohio State. He had to shoot free throws left handed, was not efficient, didn't have a great statistical season. Our numbers absolutely said they should pick Durant. It wasn't even close."

I said it for the get go that Portland needed to draft Durant. Oden will make a decent center in the league but Durant is a franchise player. Twice Portland missed out on drafting a super star from selecting Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan. Who ever drafted Bowie over Jordan must be having a hard time finding a GM job in the NBA, he is known as that guy.

Sometimes teams buy into the media hype. Milicic, Lebron and Oden are prime examples. Then you have the many "next Jordans" that' we no longer hear of. Oden was supposed to be the next Bill Russell so hey they went with conventional wisdom - bigs are more efficient than wings...

Bitter much? I wasn't happy about LBJ and Bosh going to Miami either but to throw Lebron in with complete busts is slap to your basketball credibility.

Come on Lost! I agree with McGateway. I can't stand to look at LeBron, but he is no Millicic or Oden. You can't just act like the guy is a scrub.

Ok... If they drafted Durant they would have had to move Roy. Either way, the still haven't got a competent, winning coach in there, and again they need a PG.

not buying the "they already had Brandon Roy" B$ story....if that was true, Miami wouldn't have put Bron/Wade/Bosh together.....Celts wouldn't put KG/PP/Ray Allen together...simply, put the best team together possible and ball....
Portland didn't do that and everyone involved with that decision is now gone....
