12:06 PM ET 09.13 | Former UFC heavyweight champion Josh Barnett has signed a multi-fight contract with Strikeforce, as announced by the promotion on Monday. The signing goes as one of the biggest free agency pick-ups for the company since bringing on former Pride and UFC contender Dan Henderson to a multi-fight contract in 2009, and adds another quality heavyweight to their growing division.

Come on, is this a big pick up? I mean he killed the last American promotion he was supposed to fight in. If he can pass a piss test, then maybe he'll fight three times a year. But it's not like he'll sell pay-pre views.

Only a good pickup if he can clear drug tests to fight. A few interesting fights in SF to match him up in, but not many.

If he does pass the drug tests he'll just get smashed. I love Hendo as a fighter, but how well has that worked out for SF?

He looks like Patrick Swazye on steroids with a premature receding hairline.

Yeah, he did get popped for steriods, but I think he will stay clean. The guy is 26-5. All losses were to very legitimate MMA fighters. One loss to Pedro Rizzo, 3 to Mirko, and one to Antonio Rodrigo Nogeuria. I think the guy adds depth to SF. If he does well in SF, then he could spring back over to the UFC.

Somebody must've convinced him that StrikeForce doesn't drug test.

Cause he got out pointed by a good fighter? One who said Hendo had him knocked silly and he was lucky to regain himself in the first round? A lot of people look at one fight and think these great fighters are done, its really foolish and kind of a dumb way to look at things. Its not boxing, these are complex fights where anything can happen.

Your argument might have merit if SF hadn't have signed Hendo specifically to win the Middleweight title before that "good fighter" waltzed off to the UFC. Not bad mouthing Hendo, just stating that SF has a habit of making contracts with fighters that don't pan out.
It wasn't complex at all...Hendo was out of shape, had to cut a **** load of weight in the last few days, and gassed after the first round. He made SF look stupid--nothing complex about it at all.

he's been caught 3 times already.
But I hope he learned his lesson...
If he can pull that off and not get caught, SF gets the nod as the best HW division at the moment.

Comment on Josh Barnett and performance enhancing drug use in general . I love MMA. I love Boxing. I love Cycling. They all, however, have one thing in common. Their top performers use performance enhancing drugs to gain that extra edge needed to go from average to good and from good to top 10 and from top 10 to Champion. Look at International Cycling Federation, which is extremely vigorous in keeping ahead of the latest way to beat the drug tests. Even with their rigorous testing, many.........many riders still use PEDs and get caught and disgraced, suspended or banned from the sport.
This is not the case for Boxing and MMA. Each state athletic commission sets the requirements and they vary. Look at the UFC. They have no official standardized policy for fighter under contract with them regarding drug testing and penalties for drug use. So, even if you cheat like Sonnen did, you will get hit by the state where you fought, but not by the UFC. Yes, you may get released by Dana White, but just like in the case of Josh Barnett, you sign with another promotion.
To all the hard core MMA fans out there, these bulked up, fire breathing, vein busting, monster face guys are no different that those steroid hopped-up guys in fake wrestling, except they are experts in mixed martial arts, they do train like crazy, the do fight real fights but they also take PEDs excessively. You don't bulk up like Alister Overeem just by training and diet. Most of the guys, who are great athletes and can beat boxers who try MMA 95% of the time, still have become freaks of nature.
Look when the Fertita Brothers and Dana are making hundreds of millions of dollars on these human **** fights, why would they honestly want to control their fighters PED use. The answer is they don't. They may throw a few fighters to wolves just to maintain an image of controlling drug use but it is not real. It is fake, just like pro wrestling.

If the UFC cares about steroids, do as other organizations have and test BEFORE the fights. This is what had Barnett bringing down Affliction, yes, and lack there of resulted in stripping Barnett after him beating Couture. Test them going in and out. Sonnen just tested positive while almost getting a rematch due to his "performance". He shouldn't have gotten in the ring. Yes he fought well, perhaps even would've deserved the victory, had he NOT chosen the path he has. Organizations want the credibility, but the temptation (and evidently, "help") is too great for the athletes.
