Braves players and team officials agree the rotation must be upgraded to have a better shot at making the 2008 playoffs, and that they can't count on Mike Hampton, still on the comeback trail with one season left on his hefty contract. One name from their pitching-rich past -- Tom Glavine -- is among rotation remedies the Braves are expected to explore.

I thought he wanted to go back to Atl last time he was eligable and the Braves weren't interested, now they do want him?

September 25, 2007  08:19 AM ET

A reasonable contract is fine but beware of pitchers on the verge of retirement who ask for large contracts. I don't think Glavine is a solution, but I do like him.

September 25, 2007  09:01 AM ET

Yea Tribe, did we not just see a story less than 2 weeks ago where Glavine made overetures and was denied?

September 25, 2007  09:21 AM ET

I am not in favor of this....and YES my opinion should matter.

September 25, 2007  09:23 AM ET

Of course it matters babydoll..you know you got it all!!!!

September 25, 2007  09:23 AM ET

Baby?

Your opinion is the only one that DOES matter these days.

September 25, 2007  09:28 AM ET

Primps her hair and checks her lipstick....feels better after the Vick thread...

I am not a Glavine fan...he is old ATL does not need another old pitcher. He dumped us to make a point b4. He can bite the big one and stay in NY.

September 25, 2007  09:53 AM ET

Bite the big one what?

September 25, 2007  09:58 AM ET

Ha!

Et too Who Cares?

September 25, 2007  10:16 AM ET

the left one is bigger.....

September 25, 2007  10:20 AM ET

Things might have turned out better for the Braves overall if they had explored keeping him when he left for the Mets....

September 25, 2007  10:24 AM ET

He did not want to stay!! He wanted more $$$$$$$$.

September 25, 2007  10:41 AM ET

And who doesn't?

September 25, 2007  10:41 AM ET

Sure he wanted to stay Who Cares?, he was clear about it then.

He just wanted the Braves to be competitive with their offer.....

September 25, 2007  10:45 AM ET

no, he said he had to make a pont b/c of his position with the union....the braves took the money to a point and he left ATL over $1 million dollars. At that point it became chest thumping time and ATL was ticked and they cut him loose. Men being men. Glavine was head of the players union and had to prove his point. Since then I have not been a Galvine fan. I hate the players union. His family still lives here...

September 25, 2007  10:55 AM ET

The Braves had a franchise player who did nothing but win for them and were cavalier enough to let him go. Then they had a golden opportunity to get Glavine back and blew it.

If this were a relationship, the Braves would be the slimy ex that keeps stringing the other person along... I made a horrible mistake; please come back to me... oh, I'm not sure if we should get back together... but maybe we could make it work... but I don't want to be tied down...

Make up your freakin' mind!!

And, Tommy Glavine, I love ya, buddy, but please grow a backbone. The Braves don't love you... they just want you if you're useful to them.

On tomorrow's Dr. Phil....

September 25, 2007  10:59 AM ET

blah blah blah.....

On the flip side, Glavine had every opportunity to stay in Atlanta, and the Braves did offer him a 3 year, $30 million deal, which he turned down. One has to wonder how much money played a factor in Glavine's decision to go to the Mets. With the options, his new contract with the Mets is worth between $35-42 million. However, Glavine is certainly not hurting in the money department. As far as reaching the 300 win milestone, if he had taken the Braves offer and finished his 3 year contract with a strong performance, there is no doubt that the Braves would have at least brought him back for another year, to let him reach his 300 wins. Glavine claims he was willing to take significantly less to stay with the Braves, but apparently, $30 million wasn't enough. Of course, baseball is business, and Glavine has every right to pursue the most advantageous contract possible. It's just that Glavine has come across in the local media as appearing hurt that the Braves didn't offer him what he wanted, and placing the blame for his leaving Atlanta on the Braves management, when in fact, he opted to leave, for more money, and in hopes to reach a record that is important to him.

That from an article...

So maybe the Braves should resurrect their team from old & go for Glavine & Maddux if he is available & then try & sign Curt Schilling.
