08:22 AM ET 09.14 | So long, Sheldon Souray. The welcome mat isn't out for defenceman Sheldon Souray, so he won't be tugging on his No. 44 jersey when the Edmonton Oilers open their training camp sessions Saturday at Rexall Place. "I said in the summer we were making changes going forward," Edmonton Oilers general manager Steve Tambellini told the media at Penticton, B.C., where the team's rookies are playing in a prospects tournament with four other NHL teams. "We're sticking with the plan. Our ownership, our management, our coaches are all on board and we're not going to change it." Tambellini not only doesn't want Souray in training camp, he also made it clear that the defenceman will not be in an Oilers jersey at any point this season.

This should be looked at in the next CBA. As much as i want Redden sent down so my rags can have the cap space i think its too bad that a career might be over just because your overpaid. Must be another way. Sure the player gets his money but if he was making half he would be in the nhl not the minors. They need a new buyout deal.

Dont even get me goin on the Devils fiasco..what a joke that is. They couldn't settle that behind closed doors? NHL needs more bad press? If the fines werent discussed as part of accepting the deal then what a clown show. Go get em Lou!!

Maybe they need a clause in place where each year (or every second year) a team has the option of getting rid of one of their players contracts (with minimal to no cap hit). The team's could maybe just pay the player a years salary as a buyout. That way a team has a way to rid itself of the "overpaid" or "underachieving" players who signed long term big contracts.

It might also help if GMs stop paying ridiculous salaries to average players.

The problem with this is that teams will then throw a boatload of money over many years to get a player, then only pay him for for a couple good years and then dump them when they are done. What's the point of a cap if they can do that?

Why that's to sensible, there's no way the NHL can do that.

The NHL needs the money to support the Yotes. Plus the Devils were rightfully fined - the arbitrator clearly said the Devils did not intend to circumvent the CBA - so if they didn't do anything purposely wrong they should be fined. Makes complete sense.

When I heard that yesterday I blew a gasket. How can that be. Approve, amend, agree.....then penalize????? I am at a loss to descibe it.

The arbitrato is obviously from another planet as Chicago Calgary Boston Philly N.J. Vancouver were all trying to do it you know it and I know it misfortunately they don't want to make the ownerships look bad like they were doing something deceitful yes by the letter of the law they were in the right but it was quite obvious they were pulling on a loophole (and there will always be one somewhere ) and the poorer owners called foul
