Denver may have 1-2 punch in mind for Maroney

07:35 AM ET 09.15 | Josh McDaniels felt the Broncos "left a lot of yards on the field in the running game" in their opener, and, on Tuesday, added some heat on the seats of the incumbents. McDaniels didn't say which of his two running backs he wanted more yards from, but Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter should have received a clear message Tuesday that more is expected after the Broncos acquired running back Laurence Maroney from the New England Patriots. The deal involved swapping late-round draft picks, with McDaniels sending a 2011 fourth-round pick to his mentor and former boss Bill Belichick and the Broncos getting the Pats' 2011 sixth-round selection. It's possible that within a week or two, the Broncos will have a tailback rotation of Moreno and Maroney.

Maroney, doesn't that rhyme with bologna.

Phogna balogna at that.

One-two punch? Sorry, Maroney is so injury-prone that the first punch will put him on IR.

Swapping a 6th round pick for a 4th round pick? Isn't that like that extra penny tray on the convenience store? Well, the Pats were ready to cut the guy. Not much of a deal, but I suppose it's something. At least Denver's picks will be valuable.

If you consider Maroney an upgrade, your offense is in trouble.

I'm thinking the trade value was switched in the article by mistake; shouldn't Denver give up a sixth for Maroney and a fourth? NE had to sweeten the pot to get rid of him, right?

September 15, 2010  07:54 AM ET

FJM...will have a blast with this one

September 15, 2010  07:54 AM ET

Hey Denver...are ya ready for some fumbles????

And I wasn't even trying to be funny. It's just the truth about this guy. I mean, when Obama and Pelosi were talking about "no lifetime benefit cap" in their health bill, they were talkin' about Maroney. He spends more time with doctors than the rest of the NFL spends with Kim Kardashian.

This just in from Denver fans:

AARRRRGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Swapping a sixth rounder and Maroney for a fourth rounder is kinda like giving $10 in exchange for $5, it doesn't make sense, but then again, when has anything McDaniels has done made sense? 6-10 here we come!

keep ur head up. u get to play the raiders...and Al davis has nothing to do with you

In order to have a "rotation", that suggests multiple backs, which means players playing. Maroney has not fit that bill since showing up in Foxboro.

September 15, 2010  08:03 AM ET

1-2 punch? Maroney wasn't that good in NE, there's a reason the Pats were trying to get rid of him, and it has little to do with the fact that he's a free agent this coming offseason.

The Broncos should have no problem with having multiple RBs, since no one they currently have on their roster can stay healthy.

Sorry Denver fans, after watching Maroney break my heart year in and year out I'm happy to see him go. He'll tear it up one game and then take the next 4 games off. Not even worth a 4th rounder.

Then Maroney will fit right in. Good thing the money they pay their trainers and doctors doesn't count against the cap.

I agree, the Pats would not have let him go if he were.

How often did he play 4 games in a row?

The Pats don't run the ball that much as it is, so yeah, this trade only makes sense for them.
