Seguin stuck out of the middle in Boston?

08:00 AM ET 09.15 | Traditionally, a team picking so high in the draft has more holes. Had the Taylor vs. Tyler debate ended differently -- with the Edmonton Oilers taking [Tyler] Seguin first overall instead of Taylor Hall -- this would be less of an issue. Seguin probably would be playing in the NHL immediately, even though he is only 18. The Oilers need help at center. Had Seguin gone second overall to the Toronto Maple Leafs, who traded the pick to the Bruins in the Phil Kessel deal a year ago, same thing. Had he gone third overall to the Florida Panthers or fourth overall to the Columbus Blue Jackets ... well, you can go down the list. But the fact is, Seguin went to the Bruins.

And I bet he still lights a candle and puts fresh flowers on his Brian Burke thank you shrine everyday.

"But the fact is, Seguin went to the Bruins."

This guy is very observant. He should be a detective.

He's a defective detective.

I remember a time not too long ago when reporters actually "reported" news. I think a grade 1 class could of put this blurb together...This seems like a story that could of been written pre-draft (just change the "had" to "if")

So stupid that they keep trying to make this an issue. He will play on the wing...everyone seems to know this except the sports media.

Soooooo, he's 18. If he doesn't crack Boston's lineup he gets some good playing time in the AHL where he can learn and improve his game.

Nice Avatar.

Cream rises to the top. If he's that good he won't be out in the wilderness for long.

I don't think he old enough to play in the AHL. I believe he would have to go back to Junior, which really wouldn't be a bad thing. I'll rely on greater hockey minds to tidy this up. Where's Argos when you need him?

To my knowledge your are correct. Since he came from the Juniors if he doesn't make the Bruins he has to go back to the Juniors. I believe he can't play for any AHL team till his Junior contract expires (Twenties?). That rule is infect so the NHL doesn't poach talented Juniors from there teams.

Thanks for the clarification all. My point remains the same, tho. Very few people are going to do well in the NHL at 18. Seguin may be one of them, who knows. But if not, a few years to mature can't hurt.

September 15, 2010  02:20 PM ET

if this was a concern for the bruins they would have made a behind the signs deal with the OIlers so that the B's landed Hall. Seguin is great and BOston is loaded...I don't see this as a problem. Most natural first year centres spend a season on the wing anyway to figure out the defensive side.

Throwing him into an NHL lineup without more seasoning would be a mistake. He will be all that much better with more time to build his body and mind and be coached at the highest levels.

I'm still happy (relieved?) by the victory Sunday night. I have a feeling I'll have another Avatar soon.

He is old enough but cause he's in the CHL they have an agreement in place that if they don''t play in the bigs they have to be assigned to their Jr. team.If he was playing College or in Europe they could send him to the "A"

Suprisingly you are right Canuck;) He is not eligble for the AHL and would have to go back to JR. I'm still waiting for the Joe Kapp story.

According to Swampy I was right but for the wrong reasons. Christ I can do that at home. :-)Anyway, one story coming at you.
