07:58 AM ET 09.16 | Jaime Garcia wasn't ready to be shut down. Insisting that the standings didn't guide him, Cardinals manager Tony La Russa announced a plan Wednesday to sideline [Garcia] for the remainder of the season and protect the young starter from additional wear. The team just forgot to tell Garcia. Less than 30 minutes after La Russa had revealed the plan to reporters, Garcia met with his bosses and convinced them to reconsider, to give him a break and then give him a shot at helping the team and, perhaps, of winning the National League Rookie of the Year award.

Shut him down. He's coming off arm surgery and has pitched a high number of innings, compared to the last couple of years.

I would worry about personal awards too if I played for this joke of a team. Absolutely TERRIBLE sums up the 2010 year for the Deadbirds and it won't get any better from here on out until "The Tony and Fat Albert Show" take their so-called skills somewhere else. Please, please, please leave Tony...everyone hates you. And if they sign Albert to a major contract like everyone expects....expect us to miss the playoffs a lot more in the near future. You cannot win with washed-up AA players filling in the gaps. As dumb as the front office people are in St Louis, they shouldn't have to look much further than left field to realize---paying half-way decent players way too much money, does nothing for a team. The Deadbirds are an embarrassment to Major League Baseball

I'm a big fan of Garcia but he has got some big competition for rookie of the year. I would rest and reabilitate the arm this year for the team. Besides, if the Cardinals don't start win, he won't either.

Yeah, they definitely need to shut him donw. They are not making the playoffs, so there really is no reason for him to be pitching and racking up those innings.

they were terrible that year too....they will be remembered as the team that won the world series with the worst record ever.....speaking of bad records, your a Cubs fan, you have a lot to worry about.....EVERY YEAR. CUBS=Completely Useless By September, although it is usually more like June

That team was essentially the same team that won 100 games in both 2004 and 2005. They had an injury rash that led to fewer wins in 2006, but they were much better than their final W-L record. That showed in the playoffs.
The Cardinals under LaRussa have been in contention for the NL Central in pretty much every year except two or three. We that are true Cardinal fans know we have nothing to complain about in the big picture. I'm disappointed in this collapse like everyone else, and I question a lot of management decisions, but to suggest that the Cards are a horrible organization is ignorant. They have spent money well for the most part and resisted temptation to over pay in many situations.

I hope when you say "in contention every year except 2 or 3" you mean this year which will go down in history as one of the biggest meltdowns in deadbird history---it is time for Tony and his coaching staff (puppets) to leave town. I would love if he would announce after their final game (loss) of the season...live on TV. Also, the only thing I am rooting for now, is for them to slide down into 3rd or 4th so everyone knows they didnt have a chance when they look up the standings in a few years (like most of you nerds are doing right now)

Yeah, this would be the third year to me that they have not been in contention at all in September. Not bad out of 15 years.
So you really think the Cards pitching staff would be better off without Dave Duncan? Really??

Dave Duncan is not a god. He usually has 1-2 good pitchers on the team and they would be just fine without him. You really think Carp and Wainright wouldn't win 12-14 games somewhere else. He did wonders for Lohse and fat Brad Penny this year....although Lohse is a worthless individual with zero talent
