Pirates' Duke to be dumped from rotation?

08:02 AM ET 09.16 | Zach Duke has given up 20 runs over 14 2/3 innings, and his ERA has swelled to a league-worst 5.78 among pitchers with 140 or more innings. The Zach Duke who took the mound Tuesday night at Citi Field lacked the command, the confidence and ... well, pretty much everything that riveting rookie had: He was charged with eight runs, nine hits and two home runs over 3 1/3 innings as he and the Pirates were pummeled, 9-1, by the New York Mets. And, as it turns out, this might be the place where his Pittsburgh starting career ends, as manager John Russell said afterward that the team will discuss removing Duke from the rotation. "We'll consider what our options are," Russell said. "We'll talk about it more the next couple days."

Talk about irrelevant. A pitcher with an ERA of almost 6 being removed from a team that's 35 games out of 1st place....riveting.

I've Duke a couple of times and I think he's a good pitcher, but I doubt many pitchers would look good with that team behind them. Plus the only motivation is.... hey maybe we can break the all-time road loss record... how long will this team be a joke?

Great. They'll probably trade him to the Cards where he'll win 15+ games or something like that. I don't see the Buccos having a winning season any time soon.

Like Maholm did so much better last night and he's considered the ahem, "Ace" of the staff. They need a whole new starting rotation.

The Pirates will be bad as long as they are owned by the nuttings. And the people in Pittsburgh are dumb enough to keep goign to games and spending money which these guys take directly to their pockets. The only way the Pirates get better, is to become non-profitable, then the Nuttings will sell the team to someone who cares more about winning than making money.

Studies have shown the Pirates could turn a profit every year and not even sell a single ticket. So there's really no point in boycotting. Sure they have sellouts on certain nights, but most games, the stadium is only half full.

Nutting also just opened his check book to get their top 2 draft picks signed. Don't know the exact figure, but they got about 6-7 million each. Trust me, I'm not defending Nutting by any means, but the ownership seems committed to this new group. Would you shell out big bucks for average players that have already reached their peak ala Jack Wilson, Xavier Nady, etc... I wouldn't. You have to adhere to a certain system when you're a small market team in an uncapped system like the MLB. Granted, in shouldn't take 18 years, but this current ownership group has only been at the reigns for 3 years.

I disagree regarding the boycotts. It's not only about profits, it's about sending a message to the Nuttings. Plus, I personally wont put a freakin dime in their pockets, let them get rich off someone else.
