Arrested Seminole to play

Junior linebacker Geno Hayes, who was arrested and charged with three misdemeanors after a bar fight this past weekend, will be allowed to play Saturday against Alabama, but he will not start. Because Hayes does not face felony charges, the decision was up to coach Bobby Bowden, with approval from athletic director Dave Hart. Hayes likely will be replaced in the starting lineup by sophomore Marcus Ball or junior Toddrick Verdell.

Way to go Bobby. "Suspend" someone when you have a bye week. That's teaching kids the right message...

September 26, 2007  07:48 AM ET

There was 2 arrested, I wonder if the other one will get to play or only the better of the 2 athletes.

September 26, 2007  07:50 AM ET

Ahhh, the breeding grounds for the next Pacman Jones. This is when they are supposed to put a stop to stuff like this but not Bobby...no charges are Felony charges, no one was stabbed, shot and left paralyzed or worse yet left dead on the sidewalk so you can play this weekend, we just won't start you...great message to hand out. "We won't let you play the first series, but we'll put you in the second series" How admirable.

Bobby Bowden continues to be the class of the NCAA.

September 26, 2007  08:46 AM ET

The other guy has been a broken leg (Joe Surratt) so I doubt he is playing.

Im a noles fan and I agree with all of you. One time Bobby said, "sometimes physical punishment teaches em a better lesson than missin games"

"Please coach, don't make me run stairs, I'd rather sit out a game than run!"

haha, what a joke. the funny thing is this guy isn't even that good

September 26, 2007  08:46 AM ET

That's that FSU discipline that we have all know to love!!! Good job Bobby! Way to show the rest of the NCAA that it doesn't matter what the conduct of the players is....it is all about W's & L's.

FSU IS A JOKE!!!

4 out of 5....GO TIGERS!!!

September 26, 2007  08:47 AM ET

lmao....

September 26, 2007  08:51 AM ET

This is no surprise. This is Florida State for gosh sakes...they probably got cats playing with ankle monitors on under their socks.

September 26, 2007  09:08 AM ET

EJ - their socks & shoes cane from FOOT LOCKER with the FSU discount!!!

September 26, 2007  09:09 AM ET

Unfortunately, this time I can't defend my Noles. This is a bad decision by Coach Bowden. Bad for the Noles, bad for college football. No excuses.

September 26, 2007  09:14 AM ET

Things are starting to get back to normal in Seminoleville when I see a headline like that....GLORY DAYS!!!!

September 26, 2007  09:14 AM ET

Daggumit!!!!!!!!!!!

September 26, 2007  09:21 AM ET

I'm a FSU fan also and I think this was a mistake. Should have benched him for a while. Not that this is unique to FSU as many teams do the same thing, but I expect a higher degree from my boys. I mean we suck anyway, what would it hurt? Oh and I have a question for you Kard, who are you going to wet yourselves on this year? Central Michigan? Duke? or Maryland? You every Clemson fan I have ever met, and I went to school 10 miles from there, talks big until they loose to UNC or some other God awful team. Wonder who it'll be this year.......

September 26, 2007  09:33 AM ET

I am proud of the Noles fans. He made a bonehead move.

September 26, 2007  09:41 AM ET

I agree Dr baseball. The irony of it is that Hayes has 19 tackles in 3 games, thats just over 6 tackles a game. Man, those are stellars numbers from our "star" linebacker! Ive said this before, but he would have 50 or 60 tackles if he didn't wiff or run right by people half the time

September 26, 2007  09:41 AM ET

Doesn't the picture fit here? haha

September 26, 2007  09:50 AM ET

Kard Kid, FSU sucks? When was the last time Clemson won a conference title? A national title? Hint: probably not in your lifetime.

BTW, don't think these things don't happen at Clemson. FSU is a much higher profile team and, therefore, receives more attention from the media. You don't HEAR about it happening at Clemson because NOBODY CARES what happens at Clemson.

September 26, 2007  09:58 AM ET

eyes wide open, yes it's fun to haze the clemson guy, but come on they have owned us in recent years. everything you said was true, but it's not the time to be ragging on different programs when we are the 4TH best team in the state of florida right now!

September 26, 2007  10:00 AM ET

and yes USF would wipe the floor with FSU right now, so don't deny it

September 26, 2007  10:18 AM ET

oh i agree, we suck right now, but i dont want to hear crap from a guy who's team chokes every year. They have owned us, no question on that one.
