Notre Dame's Floyd still wants catch back

09:54 AM ET 09.18 | It wasn't the throbbing in Michael Floyd's left shoulder or the uncertainty of not knowing when he would be able to put on a Notre Dame football uniform again. It was the call. That's the detail that comes bubbling up a year later, the part of the Irish junior wide receiver's rock-bottom moment that he can't let go a year later. "I thought it was a touchdown," Floyd said. The officiating crew for last year's Notre Dame-Michigan State game at Notre Dame Stadium saw the 7-yard routine fade pattern from Jimmy Clausen to Floyd as an incomplete pass. To the bewilderment of much of the media and those fans watching at home on NBC, the replay official saw it the same way.

Better believe it was a catch, the mother f@#$% ing baystards better not hand out any bad calls tonight or I'll have to get me bat out! GRRRRRrrrrrr...

Well, that settles it...ND is so important that even an "incomplete" pass from a year ago is news enough to nearly lead the "headlines" on a gameday edition of T&A.

I apologize, but not for our arrogance, only for the few minutes you wasted reading this because it was a story about ND.

at least ND doesn't play in the SEC... I cringe every time I watch those games as there always seems to be a litany of bad calls and bad ball placement...

Is there anyone out there that is not an ND homer that can confirm it was a catch? I didn't see the play or game.

Well, as a Husky fan, who feels they got shafted in South Bend last year on the goal line at a point where the game could have been put away for the Dawgs, I'd say it wasn't a catch because he let go when he hit the ground...what was it, last week in the NFL a similar "catch" that was not to be because it wasn't handled through the end of the play as the reciever hit the ground.

I seem to recall that the rule requires a reciever to maintain possetion to the ground, kind of similar to maintaining possetion and making a "football" move in cases when a fumble is seen as an incomplete pass (or the other way around) in the field of play.

But, I don't know...we won that game, why is this still a story?

September 18, 2010  01:51 PM ET

And yes, possetion is the proper spelling in my reality.

Not a catch! It was called on the field and did not have sufficient evidence to overturn. If they had called it a catch, it would have stayed that way too. A game is not decided on one play, anyways, so let it go.
